Comment and Suggestion status

In my opinion, it would be highly beneficial for approvers to be able to change their comments from the automatic "ok" to the waiting status by using a drop box while making a new comment. Of course, the default option should be "ok".

This has the great benefit of approvers being able to review a comment before it gets posted from the approving screen, which would be very useful when fiddling around with long posts involving HTML.

The same thing could be applied for suggestions for those people with the suggestion approving ability.

Lastly, I'd like to apply to be a suggestion approver, so that new suggestions are posted quicker whenever Steve or Lokey is absent.

Agreed that this needs improving. But I think a preview feature should be available to all.

There's actually no such thing as a suggestion approver. I never got around to programming that properly, I just made it so comment approvers suggestions are automatically approved.

Also do you think we should switch to a bb code system rather than allowing certain HTML?

As long as various formats of bb code parsing are supported, I'd prefer implementing it as long as the current html is also available.

By various formats, I mean that there are different conventions to tags.. For example, both uppercase and lowercase tags should be supported, as well as [url=something.com][/url] and [url="something.com"][/url]. Images should be displayed correctly with both a closing tag and without one, since a user may want to embed a link to somewhere withing both an image and text, like [img="somewhere"][url=somewhere.com][/img]my image here[/url], but also just [IMG=somewhere] should be supported.

Image and link tags also less commonly have a source field, like [img src="someplace"]. There are probably other oddities as well..

But this is assuming that you will be implementing a bb code parser from scratch; of course, website add-ons and freely available parsers are also possibilities.

Hmmm I think I would rather pick one format and support that. So long as it's clear on the site what the format is it should be ok, don't you think?

Yeah, I never had issues with HTML either, since it's so neatly laid out in the allowed HTML box above.

I guess I'd opt for the [url="something"][/url] -format for links and [img="someplace"] for images. Of course, bold text would be as simple as [b]this[/b] and italics [i]like this[/i]. I wouldn't imagine there being a need for ASCII art tags.

I like markup.

I'd like if both were available. Or even just the possibility to preview your comment/suggestion before posting.

I don't think that there has been a lot of hassle for new users with the usage of HTML either.. ..Every now and then something comes up, but it's not usually anything that can't be fixed in the approval process. Now that I think about it more, the HTML table is quite neatly laid out.

That markdown syntax looks sweet :-)

Looks interesting, although it might be a little intrusive.

Ten hours of programming/math every day.. It's great to finally be able to study actually interesting things properly, but it doesn't leave me much free time, since I really want to learn this stuff properly.

So yeah, I started studies at the Aalto university (actually a week ago by now), I have no idea what the related vocabulary is in English though. But I'll learn to do things related to software and program design, that kind of stuff.

Very good - I started back at college myself this week. Doing a masters part time. I'm doing cryptography this year. There's a maths part and a practical part. Both seem very interesting.

Learning about Bruce Schneier and the NSA back doors in Windows and Lotus Notes lol :)

Cryptography seems interesting, so I'm planning on taking one course of it next year :)

Blech, mandatory language classes.. Just because the country has more than one official language doesn't mean I'm interested in learning them all!
