The Suggestion...
Unfortunatly, this included that of a Chef.
This game was actually called Chef and had the main character named Chef as well. (That should sound familiar) It was a relatively simple game- flip sausages and keep them in the air while watching out for a cat who liked to mess you up. (Very addictive actually)
As we see, my "Chef" and Nintendo's "Chef" are entirely different games in practically every way, except for the title and main character's occupation. Obviously, I can keep Chef because it is a rather common occupation, plus the name is really just a nick-name to Chefferey, as will be demonstrated throughout.
However, as awesome as Chef is for a title, it will most likely have to change. At the moment, all I can come up with is "The Pizza Man", which isn't all that bad, but I would like something better. I want to try and keep the power the original name has behind it, but I need help. If you have any ideas, by all means, post.

The PiZANATOR that sound good
new york chef?
Hmm. I think Gnorthan's has some kind of a ring to it, somehow.
*The* Chef?
oh! or "chef!" with an exclamation point!
okay no caps The Pizanator
I don't see why you can't just stick with Chef.
If you're worried about Nintendo, IANAL but I don't think they wouldn't be able to sue you for using that name. I think they'd have to show that you copied the whole game.

I've known Nintendo to be pretty darn picky in the past. But then again, they have lawyers to keep them out of lawsuits. It does take alot of money to enter a lawsuit whether you win or lose, so I guess it would seem a little pointless to spend a couple thousand dollars to change four letters and an exclamation point. Maybe I had a little case of paranoia ;)
Whatever the cause, at least I would have a back-up if they did sue.

Yeah, I don't really like Nintendo of America. They are the pickiest things in the universe! (Release MOTHER 3 already!!)Then again, this is assuming they even find out about this.
Besides, couldn't you just add one tiny thing to the title. Like*The* Chef?
ANyway, I agree with steve, there isn't much point getting worked up about this.

The Chef wouldn't work because Chef is his *name*
That's like calling me The Darren.
That's like calling me The Darren.
The Darren,eh? Actually has a nice ring to it. lol
Anyway, it could work considering he is a chef.
Or maybe CHEF!! or CHEF!!! or etc.

There's SHEF which sounds exactly the same, lol.
how about Cherlin master of pizza
He has a name! Cheffery! (right?)
Indeed Darren. And that is NOT changing. :)
How about than "The Master Chief."
'The Master Chef'....
It would be a awesome make-up of the awesome Master Chief and Arbiter video series..
Then again, I think that the playable character in Halo is called him(ALTHOUGH, I never played Halo, so I may be confused by the video series to think so, which is very likely).
Anyway, it would sound kind of like in the Merlin world name suggestion the 'Super Merlio World'.
Anyway, there are LOTS AND LOTS of Nintendo rip-offs. That isn't to say that it means we are allowed to do it, though.
I think using CHEF is just fine, if it weren't, then making a game with nearly any sense-making name would be against the law.
As you said, it would be good to have a backup name, just in case.

I don't like NoA.NoJ Rocks my socks too!
i think most will like "Master Chef" better
Except I don't want to copy off Halo.
Master Chief
Master Chef
Yeah...that's a no.
Master Chief
Master Chef
Yeah...that's a no.
I'd have thought it'd be spoofing Halo more than anything, but fair enough.
how about, ...... Iron Chef, or Obsidian Chef since in game and watch its a black figure (not being racist) or Coal Chef?
I think plain old chef would be best. Why are we throwing out random names again? Wasn't that resolved?
