Nice.
KOOLS!
Like you will ever find anyone to do the graphics for that...

Let alone an entire sprite.
Its not that it is a bad idea but it will just never get done. :P

um, what do the ice blasts do? it sounds really cool, but there should be something different about the ice blasts. by the way, sweet animations sketch
I imagine they would fire the Arctic Blast.
lol
But, unless the game has elemental resistances & weaknesses, what actually is the difference between this & the thundermonk (except maybe how much of a threat they are. Pallette swaps ftw).
Also, Sketch's link is messed up; there's an extra http// in there.

The artic blast slows enemies down, unlike the thundermonk's spell, which just damages.
Extra http//...so that's why I couldn't see the sprite!
Frosty Monk... I like the actual idea, but not the name.
Frosty is a total adjective that does nothing to describe what the unit does, so therefore you are implying the it is just a very cold monk.
It is not cold, and much less a monk.
If you might, I'd like to suggest the following list of names:
Frost Monk
Ice Monk
Arctic Monk
Eskimo Monk
Monk of the Arctic
Ice Mage
Ice Wizard
Ice Sorcerer
Ice Bender
Etc.
Also, could I elaborate on what the Arctic Monk does?
First... it charges the spell.
Then, it fires the spell.
The spell explodes, and anything that is hit directly with it, will be momentarily frozen. They will not move, attack, do anything. After the explosion, anything within a 1-tile radius will suffer momentary anim-slowdown, the amount depends on how close you are to the explosion.
After the explosion, shrapnels of ice slivers (about 10) will fly away from the center of explosion.
These, if they hit you, will do reasonable damage, however, there is no explosion, no freezing, etc.
It is quite a complicated spell, actually.
1: Produce Explosion
2: Subtract Health
3: Anim-Freeze/Anim-Slowdown
4: Produce 10 Ice slivers
5: Damage
Although maybe not to you, they are very deadly to your army, simply because they can get hit several times, be vulnerable frozen, slowed down, etc.
-=-=-=-=-=
To me, the ___monk is the exact opposite of the Thundermonk.
Perhaps you should make an opposite of Bomb Mage.
Um... er...
The SnowBomb Mage? They throw snowballs that explode when they land or hit you. They would be a bluer version of the Bomb Mage.
Thx.

as long as it blows up i like it...so cool!
I don't really think that a snowball would be too dangerous. However, the Frost? Ice? Monk? (I'm not a good namer-of-things)'s attack decription (by Carefree_Butterfly) I really like. It should be used.
Yeah, ever since I downloaded the GIMP, I've been trying to work on graphics whenever I can.
Here, I have just a small image of a frozen goblin (even though it hasn't be determined that they will be enemies of the goblins.)
If you think that I am worthy, I would gladly volenteer to produce "frozen" versions of all creatures that the ____ monk would freeze.
And IF I have the time, I could even try to do them all in an ANIM, so the 400 ka-trillion in the game fan-pack.
Oh, and in order for me to do any of this stuff, I'll need the images in a JPEG or BMP format.
(BMP's the best, it's easy to manipulate.)

Carefree_Butterly, There's no need to draw each character seperately, I can just colourise them on-the-fly in shockwave and freeze them in whatever pose they happen to be in.
If we want them to be in an ice block, all we need is a semi transparent graphic of an ice block. Then the game engine can scale it to the appropriate size for each enemy and place it over the top. If that looks a bit rubbish, we could have different size ice block drawings. But there's no need to redraw all the characters in a frozen state.
Thanks anyway!

personally carefree i think it looks pretty cool. although steve does have a point, i still think it looks cool.
Why do these things never load for me???????????
Well, I feel struck dumb.
First of all, I am dissappointed.
Second of all, I am relieved.
I kinda wanted to do it as a practise in tinting and colouration as I learn to draw graphics, but then again, that would save me a lot of work, especially since I have limited time on the computer.
If there's anything that I could work on, let me know.
If anyone has a suggestion they want me to collaborate on it, I could try it. I'm not as busy as steve or Sketch, so, yeah.
And if you don't like it, you could say no. No hard feelings.

I think the best thing is to find an enemy that inspires you and then go ahead and draw it.
here are some possible ice blocks in different shapes and sizes, i like the first one the best

yeah go with the first one, and maybe make a bigger one for the golems (they might get embarrased by the small sizes).
Ye the first is probably best.
oh wait, semi transparency doesn't work too well in shockwave...
question: is the black line (/) a crack?
I think the best way to draw it would be to have white areas which would be transparent. That way, the ice block would basically frame the enemy.
Alternately, (or additionally) you could have alternating blue and white pixels in a checkerboard arrangement. This would give a kind of "old school" translucency.

yeah, it is
What about monsters that are big? Like the Black Ork?
It'd be odd if a goblin was amassed by a super ice block, or a Black Ork with a little ice cube attached to his chest.

carefree_butter fly love your attack and my favorite name is the Ice Bender and the music sign guy i like the first one too it just should change size for the diffrent enemys.
Go "old school" transparency!!!!
Yeah!!!
Yeah!!!
The ice blast could do what the thundermonk was origanally supposed to do! If the monk would hit you merlin would slow down until you stopped completely.
THE GRAY WIZARD LIVES!!!

hey guys im new and i want to help you to do some update about merlin's game. I'M A FAN
carefree thats why i said that there should be different sizes
♪ your second icecube like more like a ice ball. maybe that's what the ice bender should launch.

We have so many monks. The thundermonk, the black monk, the distant cousin...shrouders and now frosty monks.
Frosty monks were the second if I remember right.
Note are shrouders part of the monk alliance?
