Opposite-color spells for wizards

Expanding on [Suggestion_4931] and Suggestion_1014].

Of course it'd be nice if wizards used the same-color spell by default in MR4, but that has the less-than-desirable effect of suggesting that Berlin default to Morph and moreover Merlin default to Summon, both associations we'd likely rather avoid in the wake of MR3. (If I may interject my opinion I see them both as rather cool and rather far out of the way in MR4... not right up front as presumably is Berlin.)

However, it's clearly vital to use the colorful property of both wizards and spells to associate them: when choosing a partner in the middle of a fight, you don't want to think, "Hmm, who has the Energy Mines? Was it Flaetorlin?"

Therefore, the next best thing is to give each wizard a spell of the opposite color. While the exact matching may vary due to the influence of Prestotolin the Indigo, a few basic examples of possibilities follow.

Merlin the Blue: Energy blast is Orange. Perfect.

Berlin the Purple: Whichever it is, the Yellow spell is always a good berserker single-target spell with high power. Excellent to a battle-wizard.

Foelin the Orange: Convenient if he and not Flaetorlin is the fire-wizard (possibly found in the desert?) because something like Fire Summon would look nice against a blue spell. Also, wasn't he evil? If not, substitute Flaetorlin. Better that the summon be in the hands of an enemy wizard for MR4, 'cause that makes for a fun fight for the (Fire) Summon.

Flaetorlin the Yellow: Assuming he's not Summon, he's Morph. That could be quite convenient in a partner. (And the Morph could have some interesting forms...)

Verdanlin the Green: He's been presented as a bit technical, so Energy Mines or similar red spell is perfect.

Amotonlin the Red: Hey, we don't have a green spell yet! What an opportunity to get creative, eh? Sounds like a Water spell, whatever it is, and likely from the Swamp. Perhaps you need to go there and get the spell in order to rescue Amotonlin, in a puzzly-sort-of-thing? (Which can obviously be avoided with enough blasting-power if doing the other sides first.)

As to Ulin, Garonlin, Prestotolin (and Mortillin?) I couldn't really say as they don't seem to have opposites. If they're each their own color, though, I can go off on this tangent:

Ulin the White: Heal (see Monk) is very convenient, especially for beginners if you put him in the middle. But alternatively you might first offer...

Garonlin the Grey: Tell me something. Couldn't say what to call it, but in some way he ought to be able to give useful information with his spell, whether he uses it or Merlin.

Prestotolin the Indigo: Whatever his spell is, it's pretty strong, and I propose its use rather than Summon for the blue-vs.-black fight at the end. Indigo's close enough and clearly quite powerful. Possibly also Water-element?

Mortillin(?) the Black: Not that you'll see him not-Sorcering, so his name doesn't really matter and he's likely to use way more than one spell anyhow. (Black versions of all of them, perhaps, over 25 screens.) But it's clearly also powerful. Maybe the black one available to Merlin is draining? Would that make Indigo or one of the white/grey pair a buffing spell? So many questions...

Hmmm. I've gone on too long and probably made more than one suggestion, though I did make an effort to split off bits like Fire Summon. Easily segmented later once the good bits are identified, anyhow.

nice idea! as for the wizards with spells the same color as themselves, I think only Ulin and Garolin sould be like that. Prestotlin should have one of the new spells, which would be greenish yellow i guess. and maybe even Ulin and Garolin should have new spells too. after all, there is three spots for new spells. I also noticed you added the corrupted wizards. I dont think you'd be able to use them because their with the magical aliance

okay, ive got an idea. Since theres no opposite, really, to grey, Garolins spell should just be colourful. in general. maybe it could be always changing colour, or is made up of every colour. maybe it could even be brown, since all the colours mix to make it. because grey is boring and it pretty much means little colour.

Sounds good to me.

Only thing I don't like is Garonlin giving information instead of doing something useful in battle.

Lol, imagine being in the middle of a tough fight, and Garonlin's standing there chatting away:

g: Charge blasts longer to do more damage!

g: Summons can be used to distract enemy fire!

g: Aim close to the centre of the enemy to do more damage!

g: Keep moving to avoid enemy fire!

g: Collect medikits to replenish your health!

Player throws mouse at screen then switches off game.

Perhaps instead, Garonlin could cast extra power at you to boost your abilities or something.

Anyway, the rest of it's great!

"= "CAUTION!! Fighting Yendor platoons with AC 10 on a drawbridge will...""

Sorry, that reminded me of the ring of full warning arc on Dudley's Dungeon (a webcomic). The line posted is just a random snippet of the arc.

Because of their opposites along the colour chart.
In art, the primary colours are red, blue and yellow.
They are in a circle thingy, like a pie chart in a way.
Red and yellow are next to each other.
Red + yellow = orange and opposite the point between them is blue, so the opposite is blue.
The opposite of white is black, of purple is yellow, of green is red.

Also, in theory if you mix opposite colours together in paint, you should get grey. Usually though you'll get brown because the paint wouldn't be high enough quality.

It's also worth pointing out that the primary colours in light are different than in paint. It's Red, Green and Blue rather than Red, Yellow and Blue.

In light Red + Green = Yellow. Colours are weird stuff.

That's not light. It's transmission, or as I accidentally wrote in my physics book, trousers.

It is light. Well, magenta, cyan and green.

Darren, if you've done stuff on light at school, depending on how old you are, they may teach you things that aren't necessarily correct, but are just models that make it easier for you to understand the point they're trying to get across.

In case you ask for proof, my physics teachers (both of them, I think) have outright admitted to it, and one of my maths teachers has said stuff like 'you know you're taught lower down in schooll? Forget all that; it's rubbish' and 'when you were younger, we taught you to do this, and it's not actually true (this is how you do it, then onto more stuff)' (and the 'we' is referring to teachers as a whole).

Quite right. And then at Uni I was told to forget everything I learnt at secondary school. I wasn't hard - I hadn't learned anything.

man those teacher sure don't learn.

I know about all the magenta and cyan and light and transmission and all that.
I just felt like telling the world about how I'd stupidly put the word trousers in my physics book lol and it seemed the easiest way.

Anyway, I get the idea you won't catch my physics teacher admitting it's nonsense. This is his first year as a teacher, I doubt he's that sure himself.
He never even studied physics!

"Quite right. And then at Uni I was told to forget everything I learnt at secondary school. I wasn't hard - I hadn't learned anything."

Heheh, sounds similar.

What did you study at university?
I've got a real problem thinking of what course I want to take. I'd like to get a job in the future in games design, so I could take a course on games design, except I don't have any prior skills, (and universities may want A-level IT as a subject taken, which I haven't taken), and if I took it and subsequently didn't get an appropriate job, it wouldn't really lend itself to any other job. So yeah, I've got a hard choice to make about what I plan to study... being indecisive really doesn't help, either.

Yeah it's difficult to know what to go for. It was easy for me, I went for the one Uni that would accept me. Lol.

Anyway, it was a modular degree at Nene in Northampton I did:
1st year
Art, Psychology, Politics

2nd year
Art, English, Media and Popular Culture

3rd year
English(maj), Media and Popular Culture(min)

It was a cool degree and taught me how to think critically, as well as such nuggets as "you know, you don't have to watch tv all the time if you don't want to".

However, if I was doing it all again (and if the option existed back then) I would do game design if I could. In fact I nearly applied to do a game design degree here in Ireland, but for various reasons that I won't go into I didn't/couldn't go through with it. If you can do it, I would do it if I were you. If not, do something that you will enjoy and that will challenge you. I don't think you need to be taught how to think critically - you're already quite capable of it!
