MR6 Mana Costs

Costs for Evil Wizards
Numbers in brackets tell you how much you buy

Goblin Foot Troop: 3 Mana (5 soldiers or archers)

Goblin Squad: 6 Mana (5 soldiers, 5 archers, 1 mage)

Goblin Hut: 12 Mana

Goblin Mage Hut: 14 Mana

Skeleton Warrior Foot Troop: 4 Mana (5)

Headless Skeleton Foot Troop: 5 Mana (5)

Skeleton Squad: 8 Mana (5 of each)

Grave: 15 Mana

Quadranid Squad: 12 Mana (10)

Quadranid Nest: 20 Mana

Dragon: 20 Mana

Ghost: 30 Mana

Necromancer: 35 Mana

Hydra: 8 per head

Bat Swarm: 14 Mana (10)

Tree: 20 Mana

Golem: 7 Mana

Fire Golem: 10 Mana

Golem Cave: 20 Mana

Fire Golem Cave: 30 Mana

If there's anything I missed, tell me.

For every 125 mana you spend, you must put 1 medikit.

If you are very poor, and you are out of mana, we you can press "Visit the Fountain of Magic", and if you have less than 50, you will be given that amount.

You are not allowed to spend more than 375 Mana.

Screens are marked with the amount of mana:

20-49: Beginner

50-79: Easy

80-109: Average

110-149: Above Average

150-199: Hard

200-259: Tough

260-329: Very Hard

330+: Overloaded

Certain people may avoid Tough and higher. If you're screen doesn't get at least 1 player in 3 days, it is marked as wasteland. Every screen needs 1 player per 3 people, to be maintained.

This all sounds quite promising. Of course, the exact numbers could easily be tweaked once the system was complete.

Except of course that it probably won't happen. (Just want to remind people of that.)

No it's ok the suggest exact numbers, it gives us a starting point and allows people to make further suggestions which show their relative scale.

NEW! Sketch
The main problem I see is that you are only allowed to have so many units on a screen at once. So the map maker would need to stop you from placing to many units at the start of a map.

Um, I think that the necromancer should cost a whole lot more than the ghost. Right now you have him listed at 35 while a ghost is 30 and most the time he summons 2 ghosts before you can kill him (assuming there is other troops on the level). Perhaps the ghost could be around 25 cost and the necromancer around 45. Also the quadranid squad has a really low cost for tough they are.

At the moment, the map editor won't stop you putting down huge numbers of enemies. The way I see it is that if someone does that, they are limiting the number of people who can play that map to those with fast enough computers.

If it's a good idea to do that those maps will be popular, if not, they won't. So people making the maps will learn what works and what doesn't, it's just another design decision.

Seems like a great idea!

I'm not sure I like the Mana Fountain thing, it would give you an unlimited amount of mana. Also a fire golem is WAY more powerful than a goblin hut.

I think you should also be able to buy pit monsters.

You may also have missed: Fang bunnies (big and small), ninjas, those bomb guys and thunder monks, Sarcastic Prince Vultures, Karate guys, dojos, and kung-fu chickens, Ninja spawners, and Thunder monk spawners, and Black Orcs.

if you were to put blokes with swords, archers... would you receive mana?

Quite!

I never thought of that... well, I think that the map editor will force 1 friendly per 10 enemies, to make it fair.

And yes, the Necro should be at least 50 mana points. I'll make a new one.

No one, the fountain will only give you 50 points if you have less than 50.

This will also account for any screens that you currently have, so you can't just edit a screen, go to the fountain to reload, and do edit again.

"I never thought of that... well, I think that the map editor will force 1 friendly per 10 enemies, to make it fair."

I wouldn't like that.
If the screen really was too unbalanced to win at, it wouldn't be played, but otherwise, if it was just hard, some people might like to solo really hard screens, and being forced to have help can just be annoying. It's just an arbitrary limit that's just annoying. Just means you have less control over your creation. Kinda like the government currently, "you must do this if you do that", 'why? it's pointless!'.

Bloody government...

No indeed. The map editor is there to allow you to make maps and express your creativity. Not to guide you in how to make a good one.
