And an idea for using the sword with the Army Summon: You hit an enemy with the Sword and a soldier appears. The only difference is that the soldier concentrates on killing the enemy to the exclusion of all other targets. Great if you want to leave the dwellings alone to level up.
i think this would be a great additon to mr it destroys the factor of ahving to punch through hordes of enemies(which could get annoying)
i dont want a big sword.......this is a wizzard game right?
So? Wizards need swords too. For when they just want to unleash their anger in constructive/destructive physical rather than magical abuse!
Okay, I did a little work on it, although I don't like it very much.
Hey, slashing with a huge sword like that is a nightmare to draw.

Not a bad effort, but since you've said you're not happy with it, I'll give you a few tips.
1) The sword should be pulled back slowly (more frames), and then swung sharply (fewer frames) for the attack.
2) As the sword is swung for the attack, fill in the space between frames with the sword's colour. This will create a blurring effect which looks cool.
3) The sword needs to be pulled back further before launching forwards.
Good try though.

o and the sword with the 'spikes' at there front and back could be an upgaded vertion the could have another pgrate that is poison.
Good effort. Like steve said the sword needs to pick up momentum. If you look way above there is an example of the pixel blur.
FLAME!
ICE!!!!!!!!
No Flaming that is just not cool to do to people! hurump!

Much better than last time (thanks for the help, guys!).

Might need a bit more work, but I like it (I'll keep working on it, though).
It could maybe do with going faster in the middle of the swing and slower at either end, but it looks pretty good so far.
i think it should go a little faster otherwise it looks more like a shimmer than a blur
of course a shimmer would be pretty cool too
It's meant to be a shimmer.
Oh, and I won't be able to animate anything for a while, so I would appreciate it if someone else does it.

yeah shimmer looks okay. it is magic after all.
Yeah the shimmer's way cool.
But a few suggestions - maybe the black line down the middle of the sword should just be a darker shade of gold.
And of course Merlin's arm will have to move one of these days.

I refuse to do shading. Can someone else do it?
His arm is moving, you just don't see it, since it's on the other side.
Oh, and I think the shimmer looks more like a shower of sparks, which is what I meant it to be.

Well the arm doesn't move quite right. It should have a firm hold on the handle.
I expect someone'll shade, but if they don't I'll have a go.

Actually, his arm isn't shown moving at all.
wizards are more magic and range, not swords and melee. i dont think merlin would really want a sword...
but then again... could it be just used as a backup attack for punch?
LOL
P.P: keep the anims up, they are so cool

Wow that is some really good stuff. Kudos.
i think sword is better than punch . besides i think in some movies and stuff merlin has a sword that he uses too. he is human after all.
i think...
Mm...but in the latest version of him, he doesn't even muster a glow, let alone an energy blast. Doesn't have to fit the stories :P
Have you noticed that all the characters in MR are ambidextrous? Flip their sprites and they switch to the other hand and use it in a perfect replication of the first. Amazing...lol
what if merlin has full health, i think he should shoot some kind of laser

Well that's not practically copy/pasted from Zelda.
Yeah, Immortal?merlin, I#m sure he never has played any Zelda games and practically taken the idea there.*dang my keyboard went into some weird american mode(
yA your apostrophes are now asterix's how come?
Because my keyboard went into some weird american mode!
Let me explain. In my keyboard, there are letters öäå. In US keyboard, there isn't. Now what does this mean? The US put ' somewhere on top of öäå, and instead of ', whenever I try to type it(in US mode), I get #.
I believe it's because when I used the keyboard on my Wii, it automatically assumed the keyboard was of the US standard, even though the wii itself is European. I think I should report the problem to Nintendo and request a change I already have in mind, but that change could mean some troubles security-wise. Also, it might mean compatibility issues, since I have no idea if the öåä are in European standard, or if it's only on scandinavian keyboards. Well, if Steve or someone in the UK doesn't have öäå, then it's just that my keyboard is unusual, but if the whole Europe has the öåä letters... Well, then I think Nintendo should actually worry about it.

Does the sword need a new design?(not that i want to change it)
Nope, I don't think so.

I typed these letters by holding down alt and different letters. Seems like French and German are better catered for on a UK/Irish keyboard.
To get the scandanavian characters I would have to hold alt and type a three or four digit number. I think those characters are part of the ASCII or UTF-8 standard and that should be all that matters.
If it means anything, I use Swedish collation by default for my MySQL databases.

I have an american keyboard so more different.
I don't need to press alt or anything. They are just beside o and l and . and - and p and enter and some number keys(in other words, at the very right side of the letters).
Yeah, it's a part of the UTF-8 standard. Guess some of the qwerty keyboards need to be specifically made for scandinavian use.

On my dad's keyboard it is terrible. The T key isn't working so he has to copy and paste the T
Well I'd guess that you could use the Scandinavian mapping with any keyboard, but the characters wouldn't reflect what was on the keyboard. To get around that, you could print out you own characters and then glue them on to the keyboard.
If that all sounds ridiculous and funny, spare a thought for my poor colleague who had to do exactly that for one of the Polish lads at work.:)

lol XD
Nah, I don't think it's that weird. My mom's friend had to do that since her husband is from Russia, so they have glued small Russian letters on the keyboard and have to change the mapping every so often lol.
my mom and dad do the same thing. They always put russian letters on all the keys
Wow, you made the rest of the page a link...
well, until I commented...
bizzare.
Gnorthan believes we're on at the same time.

imon at the same time too i was commenting and then i saw a new one pop up which was this one and Gnorthan how do you do that?
Do what?
the linking stuff.
well, first Gnorthan took the punching sprite and-
oh you mean the link to the web page, not the character after which the trusting motion was inspired?
Gnorthan has no clue.

You didn't close your html.
No the linking to the NEW thing.
what new thing?
In the one where note said "Wow,you made the rest of the page a link"
whatever, how do you like the sword?
I remember an old sword that was rather big. Like, twice the size of Merlin. I'm kind of fond of that one. Maybe make it along those lines? As for the animation, maybe you could make it a bit more of an arc? I would love it then.

Yes, I double posted with a single post.

Ya woul be cool for it to arc.Im too fond of stabbing.
Gnorthan: I like it!
It worked!
Yay!
Anyway, more feedback on the sword, please.

Nice, but I actually like that overhead swingie thing too.
But I like that as well.
Wasn't golden sword already there? Is this some sort of, I dunno, alternate animation?

I like overhead better than the stabbing because overhead slashes are pretty cool but stabbing looks a little plain though. The stab looks good though,Gnorthan!
The graphic I made for the sword was/is kinda just a placeholder until a good replacement is made.
Oh, ok.
In that case, should I animate the overhead swing?
In that case, should I animate the overhead swing?
Rox: Why wouldn't it have worked? You just did it 3 posts up.
Yes you should megaman4ever.
I was trying to make it bold, too.
Here's an idea- lets have Merlin alternate his attacks. One is a swipe, the next is a stab, and the last is a diagonal "jumping" slice. The comp would just remember which one you used last and play the following attack when you strike.
To add a bit of strategy to the gameplay, the third attack could be twice as powerful. So, if a smart player is being swarmed be two goblins and one skeleton warrior, he would use the normal attacks on the goblins and the strong one on the skelly. Or the other way around. It's really just a matter of preference.
If we really wanted to get complicated, we could make certain swipes really effective on certain types of enemies. I.E., stabbing is good against armored units, etc.

That would be nice but i think stab should be first and then swing and then the slash. It would be cool.
Well, I was going to use Steve's graphic as the base. The problem with that however is sheating. I can only animate the swing - I have no idea how it could put something like that away so that it looks good.
Unless if it's always on - if it's toggled with a key like the gmg and while using it you can't cast, then when you attack Merlin swings and then swings it back up, and walks with it held up like that.

Gnorthan is it just my computer or did you get the link wrong becaus i can't see it
Same here.
I like the anim, it looks merlin is doing a punch but secretly stabbing with a concealed golden dagger. Therefore I propose that this be the animation for the golden dagger, and we have the existing one as the one for the golden sword.
The golden dagger could have different attack properties than the golden sword. For example maybe it poisons enemies over time, or causes them to move slowly or something.

that could work,i quite like the stab animation
i made a new weapon,it cooould be a dagger,i call it the Heat Saber, leme sketch it.Im gona make this a suggestion.

That's far too big to be a dagger! Unless its gor someone like the black orc!
uhm check out the link under the suggestion for more than the heat saber, and remember I CAN ALWAYS MAKE IT SMALL!!!
However, the big one would be good for Merlin as a normal sword.
way too large.
It would be funny if that big of a sword would not kill an enemy in one hit.

Cool. I'll see about replacing stuff in a bit. you'll also want to make one where he's walking while slashing.
mabye he will just stab forward with the sword
Nice frames Gnorthan. They are awesome. You now have the slash and the stab.
The slash looks a bit bad. In the first three frames the sword should be a little bit more in the front - if you were holding a sword above your head, you would hold it aligned with the face more.
The deep idea is - Merlin looks like his background arm is too much in the back - your shoulder isn't that much back. Unless he is holding the sword in the back, but then it would be tilted a bit backwards.
It looks a bit unnatural. Just put it a bit forward and it'll be cool. Although you may need to draw the edge of the hand's robe in the third frame in that case. Also, the sword looks shorter in the fourth frame than the third.

the third frame looks like a banana coming out of merlin's head.:)
Will the arrow be in the game? Because then it would like very weird.
....Of course not! I think it just shows the transition and distance.
omg crazy merlin T.T the arrow wont be there O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O
