Chapter 1

Banished

Merlin lay in his bed, thinking over all that he had been through since the Scarlet Wizard first captured Berlin, nearly a year ago, though he was having difficulty thinking because Berlin was yelling at him from outside. After defeating the Black Sourcerer he had been a hero, but the high council had been recieving complaints of damages to towns, cities and even the forest of Darkwood, who's wildlife had been 'disturbed.' After saving hundreds of lives, his thanks was trials before the Wizard's Aldevar Courtroom Commitee, another name for the Wizard's Council. Ulin had personally told him about this, warning that "No-one had ever left the courtroom without a sentence." As a matter of fact, no-one had left the courtroom with a sentence, as the 'Courtroom Commitee' had never actually tried anyone before. Nonetheless, Merlin felt that his future would be bleak. He was just trying to figure out what to say in his defence when Berlin walked into his 'quarters,' the rooms he was staying in while in the trial period, which was expected to last several days. They weren't that bad, he mused. The rooms had a fridge and colour TV, but they didn't recieve the Robot Wars channel. One more than one occasion, Merlin had wondered how he was to get back here if he couldn't leave the courtroom without a sentence.
"Come on Merlin! We've got to go to the trials, like it or not."
"I'm coming!" replied Merlin groggily, throwing back the blankets and falling off the bed in a failed attempt to get up. "Why are you so eager to get to this courtroom? You're on trial too, remember?"
"Actually, I'm an eye-witness, to report on the mess you've made..." came the reply. Merlin stopped.
"An eye-witness?"
"Yes."
"You?"
"Yes."
"You, who accidentally set fire to the old courtrooms while cleaning?" This was another reason for no-one having ever actually left the courtrooms without a sentence: they'd only just been built.
"Umm...they think that was you, actually. It's one of the charges."
"Why do they think it was me?"
"Because I told them it was you...are you comming or not?" asked Berlin, growing impatient.
"Alright, let's go." replied Merlin with a sigh.
* * *
The Aldevar Courtroom was unlike any Merlin had seen before, and indeed the Commitee already seemed to have decided what the verdict was before the trial, meaning that the trial, rather than several days, lasted seven minutes in total.
"You do not seem to realise the seriousness of the charges against you," Ulin said "You have destroyed several villages and towns, damaging many more, and wrecked the peaceful forest of Darkwood-"
"I object, it was never peaceful and I've already been tried for that." interrupted Merlin.
"The council never gave a verdict on those charges, and it is not the only forest you have damaged."
"You practically ordered me to go on that mission..." the other members of the Courtroom Commitee turned to look at Ulin.
"Please don't complicate matters, Merlin, you are already in serious trouble..." said Ulin, ignoring the onlookers.
"You are delivering the verdict before I have had a chance to pledge my case, that's against all the rules of-"
"I think you've made your point, Merlin. The Commitee has decided that-"
"How can they have decided already? That's biased!" Merlin was getting fed up with the whole affair. Why couldn't they just accept that he had done a good thing?
"The Commitee has decided..." persisted Ulin "That you are guilty and will be banished from the Aldevar for ten years, return after this period and all shall be forgotten. Until then, I don't even want to hear your name!"
And that was it. Merlin the Blue, savior of the world had been kicked out of the Aldevar for ten years, to wander, but without permission to settle. "Settle" had been defined, rather harshly, as staying in one place for more than three weeks. His powers had been taken from him and he now had to act like a normal human, pretending, for ten whole years, that he had never been a wizard.
Having said his goodbyes, Merlin left his home and began the journey to the city of Tacea, where he knew he would be able to stay for a few weeks.
As he walked, Merlin reflected once again on the events that had taken place over the last year. How could Ulin expect him to lead a normal life after all he'd been through? The more he thought about this, the angrier he was at the way Ulin had dismissed him as a rebel. He was so caught up in thought that he didn't notice that he was approaching the main road, or that a cart without a horse was freewheeling towards him from the steep mountain track that also joined the road at that point.
"Hey! Look out!" yelled one of the men in the cart as he saw Merlin wandering down the road.
"LOOK OUT!" Merlin heard him the second time, but hadn't a chance to react before the vehicle hit him, sending him flying onto the road, where he lay for the few seconds before the cart reached him again, his body getting caught up in it's underside. Still rocketing forward, the vehicle headed towards a ditch a good few metres below the level of the road. Seeing this, the two men in the cart leaped out, no more than a second before their cart flew into the ditch and shattered into nothing but splinters and dust.
"That's...bad..." said the second man, hardly beleiving in what he had seen. "Mabye he's still alive?"
"Not very likely, but we'd best check," replied his companion, looking into the ditch "that stupid horse is to blame, breaking free just as we come to a hill!" The two men jumped into the ditch and began searching through the wreckage.
"He's not here! Not a trace!" said one, straightening up.
"Who's not there?" asked a man standing by the side of the road.
"It was this..." began the first man, then stopped as he realised who he was talking to. It was a bearded man, looking young for the age he must be, wearing a blue robe. Although he had been wearing ordinary clothes a moment before, it was plain that this was the same man they had just hit. He drew his sword and pointed it at the stranger.
"Who are you?" he asked, obviously frightened of this man, who had been run over and crushed and yet stood before him in perfect health.
"Do you even know how to use that?" asked the bearded man, looking at the sword as though it were a mere insect.
"Yes."
"Show me." he challenged, and watched as the sword was swung elegantly through the air in a well-practiced set of manouvers. "What are you like in battle?" this time the man's response was to thrust the sword back under the cloaked man's neck, asking again:
"Who are you?"
"I was Merlin the Blue of Aldevar. I do not know who I am now."
"Aldevar?" he lowered his sword. "I've been there...it's a...hamlet isn't it?"
"More a fortified village, I suppose," replied Merlin "but I mean the order based there, the one that it's named after."
"You're a wizard then?"
"I was...now I am but a wanderer. What are your names?"
"I...I'm Jonathan." came the reply "and this is Luke, my brother."
The second man held out his hand, which Merlin shook.
"So," said Jonathan "where are you headed?"
"The city of Tacea."
"Really? Us too! Why don't you join us?" offered Luke.
Merlin looked at the splinters that were the remains of the brothers' cart.
"I think we'd be walking together anyway."
As the three travellers continued their journey, they exchanged stories, though it was Merlin who did most of the talking, telling of his many adventures from the past year.
"A year ago now, my brother Berlin came to me, claiming that the Scarlet Wizard, a twisted and evil enemy of the Aldevar was after him..." Merlin paused, thinking back to that time, the time that had been the first cause of his banishing, and spoke again, his voice growing more and more distant as he began to tell the tale without even realising that he was doing so, a tale that would soon become a legend, The Legend of Merlin the Blue...

* * *

"What do you mean the Scarlet Wizard is after you?" asked Merlin sceptically "He's only a myth!"
"Believe what you like, but I'm warning you - he's coming." replied Berlin, his breath shallow from running too far in too short a period of time.
"And why, Berlin, would a myth be chasing you?"
"Because I know something that he can't afford to have anyone know."
"And what is it that you know?"
"I know that-" he stopped as the unmistakable sound of marching came from the fields nearby "They're coming! Run!"
"Why not teleport?"
"According to legend, they can track that, and follow us. If we run, they have nothing to track." Merlin looked at his brother, exhausted from running, but determined to run on. And the marching drew closer, forcing Merlin to look out of the doorway, to where the sound was coming from, and he froze as he saw what was approaching - hundereds of Skeleton Warriors, each one armed with a sword and protected with a sheild with a large red ring on it.
"Why don't we go out and fight them?" asked Merlin as he watched the approaching forms "We can both use energy blast, and-"
"No." said Berlin simply "Impossible. They are not ordinary-"
"Of course they're not ordinary! They're dead!"
"No, they aren't ordinary Skeleton Warriors. They can resist any magical attack, believe me, I've tried."
"You mean...these are the Dark Warriors?" Merlin began to turn pale "another deadly myth come true!"
"Yes."
"And is that bit about them being able to permanently kill a wizard true?"
"I'd rather not find out..."
"Then we must leave," said Merlin "but how?"
"How indeed." The two brothers watched helplessly as the beings drew near, the Scarlet Wizard now visible at the head of the army, with a sword in one hand and a Necromancer ready to be summoned from the ball of energy in his other. Suddenly giving the signal for his army to stop, the being marched towards Merlin's relaxation hut, a building just outside the edge of Aldevar with a field on one side and the village's wall on the other.
"Oo," began Merlin, suddenly cheering up "Why didn't I think of it before?"
"Think of what?"
Turning around, the blue wizard lifted a chest that was lying on the floor, though it just swung up on hinges, revealing a hole.
"Where does it go?" aked Berlin, looking into the darkness.
"Nowhere yet," replied Merlin "I haven't finished it, but we can just hide there 'till he's gone." and with that he threw himself into the hole. Berlin was just about to follow when the Scarlet Wizard appeared at the doorway, releasing a wave of dark energy that knocked Berlin to the ground and swung the trapdoor shut, though a moment later it lifted slightly as Merlin peered out through the gap.
"Finally I have caught you!" hissed the attacker, relishing the moment "I must say, you certainly are determined." he suddenly sent another wave of energy forward, spinning Berlin off the ground and into the wall, though it collapsed under his weight. Berlin scrambled backward, attempting to stand up but just falling back down again under a third wave of power. Realising that he could not escape this way, he just lay there until the Scarlet Wizard hurled him to his feet with yet another wave of energy, then his hands were bound together by a swirl of power.
"I was wondering..." said Berlin as the Wizard began to drive him towards his army "why do they obey you?"
"Because they know what will happen if they don't." he replied coldly.
"And what is that?"
At this, the Scarlet Wizard raised his arm and began to send a bolt of energy into one of the soldiers, who lurched and collapsed to the ground, before crumbling into dust. It was at this point that Berlin swung around and kicked the Scarlet Wizard in the back of the head, causing another bolt of energy to fly into the Dark Fighters' leader, killing him. Seeing this, the warriors looked angrily at the Scarlet Wizard and began to charge. Scarlet spun round and poured dark power into Berlin, knocking him out.
"My friends..." he began, turning to the approaching soldiers.
"How can you call us that, when you freely kill two of our strongest men?" spat one of them in disgust.
"Please, please, it's not that simple...it...it's his fault...he kicked me and..."
"You'd already killed one!" argued the skeleton.
"I was merely explaining..."
"You could have just told him!"
Scarlet stared at the approaching army, knowing that he would never succeed in single-handedly defeating this great force.

Merlin watched all his with mixed feelings. He wanted to run out and attack the foe, but also didn't want to move.
The army seemed to have turned on Scarlet, and he didn't like the look of Berlin. But what could he do? This wasn't going well, as Merlin knew from legend that Scarlet's dark power wouldn't kill a wizard, but if used properly could put people into eternal, unstoppable pain. He wasn't doing this to Berlin, so he must have had a need for him. But what? To help the secret stay a secret? To find out if anyone else knew it? The questions swirled around in Merlin's mind, so he didn't notice Scarlet grab Berlin and teleport out, nor did he notice the enemies deciding to target him instead, and in fact he remained oblivious until they were almost face to face with him.
"Wait a second..." began Merlin "Why don't you just track him and teleport to wherever he is?"
"It is a common misunderstanding that we can actually teleport to a place that we have tracked an enemy to." responded the group's leader, before drawing his sword, a sign for all of the others to do the same.
"Oh..." said Merlin, then disappeared.

I hope that wasn't too boring, but there won't be action galore in my books - though this is probably the least eventful of my planned series.
Oh, well.
Hmm.
I won't keep posting every week, by the way.
It'll generally be every other week at the most.
I hope I'm not too bad at this, but I try...hmm.
Oh, and I promise that in chapter 2 there will be a little action.
I should know - I've read it!

NEW! MR ROX!
Just a few more comments about ur story , other than 'great work', lol. I didnt think it was too uneventful, first of all. It didnt really have fighting action too much, but thats fine. I was actually thinking myself of toning my own story down a bit, cause its mostly been battle after battle in my story. I plan to adress a few schemes that have arisen, such as the goblin/golem alliance, and will delve into that further.
Its also a GREAT mix of a bit of comedy and seriousness. Probably better than I could do.
Again, awsome work!

I was hoping to add a couple of my next chapters to this page this week, but i dont think ill make it for even one :(. Maybe, ill be able to do two for next week, although dont expect more than one.

osel, u should probably write ur stories on this page from now on, that way the other gets a bit of rest. :P

Thnx for looking,
MR ROX!

Wow...well, that went down a lot better than I expected.
I'll upload the next chapter after the update, but I must warn you that my first few chapters will be that long as I had already written them when I posted that.
Thanks for the encouragement guys! *smile*

The Legend of Merlin the Blue

Chapter 2

The Woods of Tacea

Merlin studied his surroundings, wondering what he

had gotten himself into. The forest had been his

choice of destination, as the legends told of Scarlet

having a secret fortress deep in the legendary

Woods of Tacea. Although stories about him had

Scarlet living in all sorts of places, this was the most

common place for his myths to be set. A bat flew

past, suddenly throwing a black rock at him, though

he easily avoided it. The bat flew back to its tree.
"What is it with this place," he thought "that so gives

me the creeps?"
"It is the fact that you are not alone." the voice rang

through his head, an chilling echo.
"Who are you?" he asked, looking around

uncomfortably.
"I," said the voice "am the enemy you rush to fight

without any chance of defeating

me."
"Wh-where are you?" but the voice had gone as

suddenly as it had come. Merlin walked slowly

forward, his hands ready to call up an energy blast

at the slightest noise. A skeleton warrior leapt from

the trees, swinging a sword above it's head, but the

wizard instantly channelled his power into his

hands and created a blast, then hurled it at the

surprised skeleton. His enemy flew harmlessly

backward, then shattered on a sharp rock, it's

pieces lying around the grassy clearing. Suddenly,

one of the broken ribs twitched, then pulled itself

back together, the bones sealing with a thin black

mark. As Merlin stared in horror at this, the sword

arm, which had disconnected from the body flicked

back into it's socket and grabbed it's sword, waving

it around as the body continued to pull itself

together, each complete piece flailing around until

the head drifted back to the body, then all was

silent. Merlin prepared another blast. Still nothing.

Merlin dropped the blast, and the skeleton

suddenly leapt up and charged forward. Merlin ran,

soon losing his enemy in the thick forest. Merlin

continued until he was sure he was safe and then

stopped...but where was he? There was nothing but

trees in every direction, apart from the odd flicker of

movement from the undergrowth. Merlin forced a

little more energy into his hands, letting it sworl

around them without taking any particular shape. A

bush shook, then there was a flurry of movement

and the entire forest suddenly seemed to come

alive, bats flying from a tree here, squirrels leaping

around there...then the voice again:
"Are you scared, oh almighty wizard?" the voice had

a mocking tone "Do you want your mummy and

daddy?" Merlin froze. His parents had been killed

by the magical alliance when he was so

young...was it possible that the wizard was readng

his thoughts? He shook it off - it was a common

thing to say.
"Show yourself! Where are you?"
"I am everywhere! I can see everything in

my domain."
"But is this whole forest your domain?" the voice

suddenly stopped, and Merlin realised that he must

have been right. Without a moments delay, the

wizard began to walk onwards, hoping to find a

place where he would be able to form a plan

without this voice following him anywhere. As he

walked, Merlin heard more and more sounds, the

noise of the forest becoming a deafening uproar.

Merlin pushed a little more power into his hands,

wishing that he could just summon a few goblins

or skeletons to protect him, wishing that he had

never argued with Ulin (he had had Monster

Summon confiscated because of a dispute with the

white wizard). He was just imagining how different

this would make his situation when a goblin arrow

flew past him and what he thought was a rock

golem's fist smashed into him from behind,

knocking him out and nearly wasting him.

* * *

When Merlin woke up he was in a cave, with

goblins, skeletons, orks and two golems staring

intensely at him. As soon as he moved, one of the

goblins ran over, saying:
"He's awake! He's awake!" The goblin ran

surprisingly quickly, his long, thin limbs carryng him

swiftly over the stone floor He didn't look as though

he intended to attack but had a hand on the hilt of

his sword in case of any reaction from the wizard.
"Where am I?" said Merlin groggily.
"You are in the Cave of Thieves." replied the goblin

as he helped Merlin up.
"You're theives?" asked Merlin, though why he was

surprised he could not understand.
"No, but those who used to inhabit these caves

were. Anyway, may introduce myself: my name

is...well, I don't have one, but I'm known as Archer."
"Archer?" Merlin eyed the uncharacteristicly

confident goblin "That's not very original...what

happened to the thieves?"
"The writing on the walls seem to indicate that they

left the forest to become slave traders." replied

Archer thoughtfully "but the writing is worn, so it is

hard to tell."
They were both silent for a moment, then Archer

spoke again.
"I suppose you're wondering why goblins and

skeletons are living peacefully together."
"The thought did occur to me."
"It's because we are not normal. We

are...summons..."
This caught Merlin's attention.
"That is why we brought you here: we believe that

you are Merlin the Blue."
"That is my name..."
"Then we are to help you. You are our creator, so

we must follow you."
"Funny way of doing it."
"What do you mean...?"
"You knocked me out." at this, one of the golems

glanced sheepishly at it's feet in a rathe comical

way.
"It was merely a...mistake, no-one intended it to

happen..." said Archer "He mistook you for someone

else...but why are you here?"
"Well, it's a long story...where should I begin?"
"At the beginning." replied Archer confidently. Merlin

guessed that he was the leader of the group, since

he was the only one to speak.

* * *

"So...what happened to your summons?" asked

Luke, realising that Merlin didn't intend to tell any

more of hs story that night. "I mean...they aren't with

you now...are they dead?"
Merlin was staring deep into the campfire, as

though searching for memories of the adventure,

and didn't seem to notice the question.
"Umm...Merlin?" asked Jonathan, but to no

response. Picking up a stick, he proodded Merlin,

then again, then again but to no avail. He shoved

him firmly in the side, almost knocking him over, but

still not stirring him.
"Merlin, are you alright?" asked Luke, beginning to

sound worried.
"Maybe he's got sunstroke?" suggested Jonathan.

"We are in the desert..."
"Yes...but it's late, and deserts are cold at

night..." Jonathan fell silent, and began to prod at

the dying flames with the stick, then leapt back with

a cry of surprise as the stick burst into flame, finally

snapping Merlin out of his trance as he did so.
"They aren't dead, not as far as I know..." said

Merlin, surprising the brothers, who hadn't realised

that he had taken in what they had been saying.
"Well...where are they then?"
"That's a story for another night." he replied bluntly.
As they walked the next day, Luke and Jonathan

were constantly asking the wizard questions about

his adventures, but to no answer, though he

willingly talked about other subjects, like his

homeland or how a wizard's life worked. Eventually

however, he began asking questions about them,

and the reasons for their journey. As it turned out,

the brothers were from the northern country of

Andolia, near the Great Ocean, and wanted to train

to be soldiers in the Tacea academy. Their father

had died in the army when his camp was raided by

a small group of skeleton warriors, and they wanted

to avenge him by killing every warrior they could get

their hands on.
"Be careful!" warned Merlin "A soldier's life is a

dangerous one, and a skeleton is no easy kill. As

you have heard, they don't stay dead very easily and

even if it were not so they are still nearly twice any

man's height."
"Eh." Luke was undetered "We can take 'em."
"Do not be over-confident." said the wizard, and

began to speed up, so that the brothers had to run

to catch him.
As the day turned to night, Merlin seemed more

and more agitated, until Luke had to ask what was

wrong.
"It's this desert," replied Merlin "I've been here

before...it's not safe. There are all sorts of strange

creatures."
"Like what?" asked Luke.
"Ghosts, Skeletons, Necromancers..." he replied.
"Skeletons? Good!" said Luke, not sounding at all

worried.
"No, bad." snapped Merlin. "These creatures are very

dangerous, and I cannot protect you when you

have no more energy to fight."
"I don't need protection!" replied Luke indignantly.
"Don't be so su..." Merlin trailed off as the as sand

began to stir and a huge mass of bones stood up,

a sword in one hand and a shield in the other,

towering above the men at nearly fifty times their

height.
"I thought you said they were only twice as high..."

squeaked Luke, his bravery washed away like a

grain of sand undera tidle wave.
"They are..." replied Merlin "but-"
"Twice as high as what?" asked Jonathan shakily.
"A human...normally. I've never seen anything

like this before!"
The huge skeleton swung it's sword at them, nearly

slicing their heads off. The warrior swung again, this

time at Merlin, who rolled out of the way and

readied himself for another strike.
"Split up!!!" he yelled, ducking from another blow

and backflipping over yet another as it swung at his

legs from behind.
The two men obeyed, running in opposite

directions, ducking below and leaping over more

swoops as they came. Suddenly another appeared

from under the sand, then another.
"Great!" muttered Jonathan "One each!"
While the two brothers ducked and dodged, their

attackers getting more and more angry with every

strike, Merlin began attempting to climb up one of

the huge monster's legs, but could never get close

enough. He would have to think on his feet. Not an

easy task when a giant giant is trying to chop you

to bits just for existing at the wrong time. As the

warrior attempted to strike from above, Merlin leapt

to the side then attempted to grab onto the sword

before it was rased up again...but he couldn't get a

grip on the smooth steel, especially as it was facing

it's flat sides outwards. The beast swung again, but

now with alarming speed, once again from behind.

Merlin spun 90 degrees and cartwheeled over the

now horizontal sword. Spinning it's whole body

around, the beast tried again, with even greater

speed, now straight towards Merlin's chest...and he

wasn't ready, slipping clumsily backwards as he

landed. Suddenly everything seemed to slow down.

As the fell, Merlin threw his arms on top of the

weapon, the rest ofhis body dangling underneath.

Out of the corner of his eye, the blue wizard could

see the the Andolian brothers tiring already as their

attackers swiped unrelentingly at them. Seeing

Merlin attempting to pull himself on top of the

sword, the original warrior stopped his swing, the

momentum thowing the blue wizard so that he only

hung on by his fingertips. Merlin knew that he

could only hang on for a matter of seconds, but the

beast apparently didn't, swinging it's sword the

other way, an action that sent Merlin falling, as if in

slow motion toward the ground. Dropping instantly

to it's knees, the warrior swund the flat of it's balde

into Merlin, who was stuck onto the sword as it

continued it circle.

As he fell, Merlin tried not to think about the effect

slamming into the ground would have on him.

Since having his powers taken away, returning to

life had begun to take a lot of effort, and he had not

entirely recovered from the strain of the last recovery.

If he wasted now, and again in the next few days,

he would have no chance of living. This thought

suddenly gave him a feeling of deep peace...no

more life, just rest...but this tranquility was taken

away by the feeling of the cold steel of the sword

colliding with him. All the air was pushed from the

wizard's lungs, and he had to struggle to fight of

the death that was attempting to take hold of him.

He felt the sword slowly rotate, until he was lying on

it, his bleeding fingers wrapped around the sharp

edges to stop himself from once more being flung

into the air. It was now or never. Forcing himself to

turn, the exhausted wizard began to climb towards

the sword's hilt...

Jonathan knew he couldn't last much longer, and

he had no idea how the other's were faring, since

he had no time to do anything except look out for

the next swipe. Blackness began to creep into the

edge of his vision, and he was soon no longer able

to move, only fall to the ground. A nearby thud told

him that the same had happened to Luke. He was

to tired to calculate that there was no way that it

could be Luke, that he wouldn't be able to hear

someone falling almost a mile away.

Having pulled himself onto the hilt, Merlin lay

panting, exhausted.. Eventually he managed to pull

himself to the edge and peek over, checking on his

friends, who were on the brink of exhaustion...then

Merlin suddenly realised the the skeleton had

doubled, then tripled it's speed, and he barely had

time to leap onto the bony hand before it released

the sword, which flew off, embedding itself by pure

luck into the head of Luke's foe, which fell to the

ground with a heavy thud, moments after Jonathan

fianlly gave in and collapsed.
"Useful bit of information, that." mused Merlin, not

thinking about where he was getting energy from.

Doubt can lead to loss.
"Weak point at the middle of the skull. Very useful."
He hurled himself onto the arm, but stopped when

he realised that the creature had not noticed that

he alive, but was merely confused by the death of

it's friend. It raised it's arm to scratch it's head,

allowing Merlin to simply drop down onto the huge

skull. Struggling to his feet, Merlin smiled, then

paused. Now what? He didn't have energy mine to

blast it's head off, didn't have energy beam to make

a hole in the weak point. He didn't even have a TV

remote. Even a plastic fork would have been better

than nothing. Reaching inside his cloak, Merlin

began searching for anything that could be used as

a weapon. A tin of "Morshos" dog food his neighbor

had asked for, an old piece of "Jeppo" chewing

gum, a rough sketch of the scarlet wizard's old

castle's layout, the key to his quarters in the

courtroom, a half-eaten donut and a stick of

baloney from the lunch he had been eating when

the council had ordered his arrest. Not very useful.

What about Luke's sword? If he could get that,

then...but how could he get it? There was no way

Luke could throw it that far even if Merlin

could get a message to him. He needed his

magic for this but there was no way he could get it.

He crossed his legs in a medative position, hoping

that an idea would come to him. After a minute or

two, he began to wonder why nothing seemed to

have moved. Opening his eyes, he found that those

few moments had been enough to regenerate his

energy, so he stood up, just as the skeleton's tiny

brain finally realised that it should go and help the

skeleton that had been attacking Jonathan in it's

attempt to kill Luke. The sudden movement

knocked Merlin from his feet and he tumbled back,

rolling towards the edge of the skull, stopping

himself just before the drop. As he pulled himself up

to the top of the skull again, the wizard saw to his

surprise that the other skeleton had started to fight

the one he was on, presumably angry at it for killing

the other. The attacker swung straight at the even

more puzzled skeleton's head, but the blow was

blocked by the shield of the skeleton Merlin was

riding. Grabbing the shield, The wizard was yanked

into the air, then pulled down as the shield blocked

a low swing. Leaping from the shield, Merlin curled

into a ball and flipped twice through the air then

landed on the attacker's arm, hanging onto the

moderately thin lower sction of bone and more or

less absailed down the arm, then as he reached

the end, swung his feet up so that they grabbed it

and with his hands dangling in the air began to

swing himself back and forth until he let go and

flew into the leg, which he slid down, rolling off the

foot with a smile. Gymnastics had always been his

strong point. Leaping into the air, the wizard front

flipped right up to Luke and between them they

pulled Jonathan to his feet and dragged him away.
"What about those two?" panted Luke as they

moved away.
"Leave them to fight it out." replied Merlin.

There we are, then.
Chapter 2.

Hey, its been a couple weeks since ive last written-- IM REALLY SORRY. and again, this week, i was short on time, but i didnt want to leave you guys with nothing, so I made the BEGGINING of the 14th chapter. If i have time later tonight ill finish it, but i dont htink i will so im submitting the first bit now before i forget. The chapter is yet unnamed since it's not finished....
Once again, im terribly sorry. Ill try to work on it on sunday this time, the only day when i have any free time.

The Soldier in the Night

Chapter 14

Berlin sat stock still, sucking in all the knowledge and news of recent that we told him. For a moment, as I watched him, it seemed that Berlin wouldn’t crack one of his dumb jokes. I guess I was expecting too much.
“You know what would be fun?” Berlin said, “Watching golems step on your soldiers. We’d get blue goo from their armor! Very valuable, you know.” Berlin smiled.
My face darkened and I looked around to make sure none of my army had heard. “You know, they’re people too.” I gestured to the soldiers angrily. “I don’t want your jokes anymore, Berlin. They’re a nuisance and always get us into trouble. I was put in jail that time you shot a couple rude jokes towards the king during the meeting I had requested. And that wasn’t the worst. –”
“Ho, Merlin, it was just a joke!” Berlin protested.
“Can you ever come up with a better excuse? Just a joke – ‘let’s poison the king in his sleep!’, ‘Fine, Necromancer, we’ll make a treaty, but I might stab you in the back every once in a while.’, and now ‘let’s watch golems make blue goo out of your soldiers, Merlin!’ You might as well have run up to my soldiers and told them to die! –’
“I could do that instead, if you want…” Berlin interrupted.
My face turned red with rage. “You listen to me Berlin! We saved your little life. My soldier saved your life. If you crack your stupid jokes you’ll get us killed. A nice way to return out favor, isn’t it,” I said.
“Actually, I don’t think that would be too nice,” said Berlin sarcastically.
I stood up slowly, my eyes directly in front of his. I stared at him for a while, then grabbed his robe and pushed him against the wagon. His eyes opened wide with fright, but I did not stop.
Holding him against the wall I seethed, “You’re not going to say any jokes. Nothing you think is funny. No sarcasm. Act normal for once. Can you do that? Cause you better.” I let him go.
Berlin walked away slowly and quietly, head down. Suddenly I was ashamed. Was it really necessary to be so harsh? I walked over to my tent, glum, and sat down.

THIS CHAPTER WILL BE CONTINUED.....

Darren, the text was formatted like that on the submission. I imagine you cut and paste from something and it added line breaks to it. I think this can happen with notepad but don't quote me on that. If it is that, I think you can avoid it by turning off line wrapping while you cut and paste.

Paragraph tags are supposed to be closed, but you don't need them at all here, so please just avoid them and use line breaks instead.

Osel, no, I didn't need to change your span at all. Perfect!

I'll try that line wrapping thing.
As for P tags, I won't use them any more, but if you look at the following quote from a W3 html tutorial, they say closing the tag is unnecicarry:
"Each paragraph you write should start with a {p} tag. The {/p} is optional, unlike the end tags for elements like headings."

The Legend of Merlin the Blue

Chapter 3

Archer & co.

The mood of the company around the table had not changed.
"Do you understand my proposal?" asked Craitorn, circling the group who nodded, one by one.
"Good. I shall leave you to discuss it by yourselves." he disappeared into the darkness, leaving the four creatures alone. For a long time there was a silence, until Aldiruss spoke.
"I do not like this idea. All of us seated around this table have a reason to go against you." he looked at the Black Sorcerer as he spoke.
"At some time or other you have used each of our armies to fight your wars, and we have done nothing but lose men."
"That is true, but no-one is asking us to serve under him." replied the Ninja leader uncertainly. "This may be a wise investment. What do you think?" he turned to Kalekton.
"I am not sure. I will join, but if the first venture is unsuccessful, I will take no further part in this." he repled, carefully choosing his words. The Black Sorceror left the table and for a few minutes there was silence.
Aldiruss looked thoughtful, then stood up.
"I have made up my mind. I am leaving." he said bluntly, then began to walk into the darkness, but stopped dead as a shuriken sliced past his face. Looking around, he saw Tarawun standing ready to throw another.
Skeletons regenerate, but a ninja would probably just kill him when he woke up, and some things can kill skeletons; but not many. One example would be a blow in the center of the skull. He was about to turn back when he heard the vioce of their host:
"Do not force him. The decision is to be his and his alone. Our friend may leave at any time."
Tarawun grunted, and sat down.
"Thank you, Craitorn," muttered Aldiruss "I never did like Ninjas..."
In a second Aldiruss found himself on the floor with a sword held at his throat, Tarawun's face only centimeters above his own.
"Say that again!" growled the Ninja, the material on his face rippling as he spoke.
Aldiruss heard chairs get knocked over as Kalekton ran over to him and Tarawun, though he knew that he would never be in time to save him, even if that was his intention. The sword rose slightly and the skeleton could see that Tarawun was preparing to strike, but in a second the man disappeared, shooting off to the skeleton's right. Getting to his feet, Aldiruss could see the Ninja lying motionless a little way away, a thin wisp of smoke curling up from his body.
"The choice is yours." Aldiruss looked around and saw to his surprise that it was the Black Sourceror who had spoken, and also that it was he who had saved him - his posture indicated that he had just fired an energy blast.
"Why..." asked Aldiruss, slightly puzzled "I thought you didn't like me?"
The Black Sourceror hesitated.
"I have just spoken to Craitorn. He has insisted that we all forget our pasts and just think of this as we would if we had never met each other."
Aldiruss glanced at Tarawun, who was struggling to his feet. The Ninja walked purposefully up to Aldiruss.
"Well? Are you leaving or staying?"
"Alright..." sighed the King "I'll stay."

* * *

"How did you do that?" asked Luke. "I mean...your like...seventy or something!"
"I am four hundred and seventeen, and still young!" replied Merlin with a smile. "Wizards are rather different to normal people. No-one is exactly sure if we're even humans!"
"Oh..." Luke fell silent.
"I have that effect on most people." grinned Merlin, then looked at Jonathan. "Oh! he's waking up!"
Jonathan stirred, looking around.
"How long have I been out?" he asked.
"Only about twenty minutes." replied Luke. "That's all."
Jonathan nodded slightly then turned to Merlin.
"Will you be telling more of your adventures today?"
Merlin looked up from the stone he had been scratching at.
"If you like," he said, then paused "but we'll need a campfire."
Picking up two stones and a stick from the ground, Luke began to scrape the stones together, while Jonathan forced himself into a sitting position and took some of the firewood out of his bag, placing it in a pile on the floor. They arranged themselves into a circle and Luke threw the now merrily burning stick into the pile of wood, which instantly lit and devoured the stick.
"Before you start..." said Jonathan as Merlin got ready. Jonathan looked and Luke "I'm hungry..."
Luke hesitated, then spoke.
"We haven't got rations to spare. We need all we've got for the main meals."
Merlin placed the stone carefully in front of himself and reached into his cloak.
"Are you okay with plain baloney?" he asked.
"Are you kidding?" said Jonathan hungrily "I could eat dog food!"
"Fair enough." said Merlin, and proceeded to toss Jonathan the tin of Morshos. He caught it and stared at it.
"You have a dog?" he asked.
"No, it's for my neighbor...well, it was...here!" he threw him the baloney, grinning. "Now then..."
There was a sudden silence as Merlin stared deeply into the dancing flames, gathering his memories, then spoke.
"As it turned out, Archer was their leader..."

* * *

Merlin had come to know the odd little band as 'Archer & co.' He had become used to living in "The Cave of Thieves" but was still unsure whether he could trust them or not. It could just be one of Scarlet's different tricks, a group of creatures who were willing to work together in order to avoid death. He didn't voice his thoughts until he had been there a few days, but was by now pretty sure he could trust them. Best be sure, though, he thought.
"How do I know I can trust you?" Archer looked surprised by the question.
"I thought you'd decided you do anyway?"
"Almost, but how can I know?"
Archer grinned, and his eyes flashed blue, something that only those summoned by a blue wizard could do.
"You can't."
Merlin smiled.
"Very well. We should start making plans for our attack on the -"
Suddenly Archer held a hand up, signalling for silence, then, crouching low, darted to the entrance of the cave. He drew his sword and moved slowly out into the air, then froze and fell on his side, unmoving, his fist closed around an arrow that Merlin realised, with a growing horror, was embedded in his chest. He was just about to run out to the dying goblin when Archer suddenly jerked, instantly bringing up his bow and loading the arrow that had supposedly killed him into it, before firing and rolling back inside the cave as a goblin fell from the trees with an arrow in it's heart. Merlin ran over to Archer, who was in reality fine.
"Playing possum always fools them," the goblin summon laughed.
"Won't there be more of them?" asked Merlin unsurely.
"I suppose there could be..." muttered Archer "There isn't normally, but I think that Scarlet wants you dead...BATTLE STATIONS, EVERYBODY!"
The miniature army quickly arranged itself so that each goblin was with a skeleton, the remaning skeletons forming into two group of three.
Merlin was impressed.
"That looked well rehearsed."
"That's because it is." said Archer, then ran over to one of the golems, climbing onto it's shoulders. "Come on! You're on Molekk!"
Recognising the name, Merlin ran over to the golem that had knocked him out when he first arrived at the cave, but stopped halfway.
"I think I should go out alone first, then get on Molekk if I feel the need..."
"Alright," said Archer then quickly explained the plan to Molekk in fluent golish, the only language that golems can speak or understand. "Meh moh, MUH mah merrh." Merlin could speak golish pretty well and realised that Archer was saying exactly the same thing that Merlin had just said, except, of course, replacing the word "I" with "Merlin" and the word "Molekk" with "you". "Uh no-seh?" Merlin smiled. You savvy?
Archer then addressed the soldiers:
"Wait until I give the signal."
Merlin composed himself, then walked outside, looking perfectly relaxed, as though simply taking a stroll. Not a single spark of magic could be seen, though it was in fact barely being held under the wizard's skin. Merlin hoped that the creatures would attack soon, as he struggling to look relaxed while keeping the power from surging out, and from going back up to the power source, just in front of his brain. Still nothing, but he could tell it wouldn't be much longer, as the trees seemed to be rustling an awful lot considering there was no wind. He shoved his hinds in his pockets and allowed some of the power to flicker around, letting the rest return to it's source. Merlin walked a little further out, aware that staying still too long could raise suspisions. Still no attack. Merlin could feel the sweat forming on his brow and chose another technique: casually looking around and then staring straight into a place where he knew goblins or skeletons would be hiding. As soon as he did this, one of the goblins managed to fall out of the tree the wizard was staring at, and so the rest of the creatures were forced into an attack. Merlin pulled his hands out of his pockets and instantly shaped the mass of energy into two energy blasts - one in each hand. He hurled them through the air and the skeletons foolish enough to try a full-out attack instantly fell back in tiny pieces as the storm of blasts bombarded them. Seeing that some of the goblins were taking aim, the wizard quickly rolled out of the way, killing them as he did so. Already things were getting hectic as the shattered bones pulled together and were joined by more skeletons which were appearing from all directions. With a sense of panic Merlin realised that his friends had not joined the attack and hastily made his way towards the cave, ducking and rolling through the mass of steel, bone and wood that blocked the wizard's way. He reached the cave's mouth and sent a thick string of blue energy through the walls, alerting the army that it was time to attack. The effect was evident immediately as the warriors charged out of the cave, slicing the skeletons down using their Kensara, a special sword with the ability to perminantly kill skeletons, while the goblins, keeping up with their tall skeleton partners with surprising ease, fired arrows into the nearby trees, and suddenly the ground was littered with goblin bodies. To Merlin's surprise, Archer then ran out alone.
"What happened to your Golem?" he asked as the creature shot past.
"Change of plan." he responded simply, then moved on, slicing the enemies down with his Kensara, a white glow coming from the metal. Merlin remembered how Archer had explained that it did this whenever skeletons were near, though it was designed not to add Merlin's summons to the equation. As an afterthough, Archer had added that it had been inspired by The Lord of the Rings. Merlin glanced into the cave, wondering if the golems were coming at all, but as he entered he was shocked to see that Archer's golem immediately targeted Merlin and hurled a rock straight at him...
With barely any time to react, Merlin attempted to leap out of the way, but it was already too late and he was hurled out of the cave and into Archer's back. The goblin
glanced round, but to Merlin's surprise he then turned back and continued to fight. The blue wizard struggled to his feet and ran into the middle of the battlefield, firing blasts wildly into the trees and masses of skeletons. Noticing that one of the trees seemed weaker, he blasted it until it fell, crushing a group of skeleton warriors who were starting to win against his soldiers. There was a sudden whoosh and with a bolt of pain Merlin realised he had been hit by an arrow. The wizard turned to see who had shot him, though he knew that wasting would blank his recent memory, but what he saw was he not something he would forget. Archer was lowering his bow and grinning harshly at Merlin. The world began to turn a dull grey as the wasting approached. Merlin fell to his knees, looking around for anyone else who could have hit him. Had it been a decoy, not Archer? Even as the world slowly began to turn back, Merlin could not help but see the eyes of his 'friend' flash. With a low groan, Merlin pitched forward and let the darkness swallow him up...

* * *

"Why..." muttered Jonathan. His face showed nothing but puzzlement. Merlin understood, as he himself had felt the same when he had seen the goblin walking away.
"So...why did he do that?"
"Because he did." replied Merlin with the usual bluntness that followed his stories.
"Uh...you gonna stop there?" asked Luke "I mean, it's not even getting dark yet..."
"No," replied the wizard, getting up "but we should move a little further away from those two giants. They could remember us at any moment."
"Fair enough" replied Jonathan and put out the fire with an empty bucket, simply suffocating the flames. The three men packed up their things and walked on.

I think that one's a bit shorter.
I disabled line wrapping, so it should work - fingers crossed...oh, and good work...uh, everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NIGHTS OF INDEGESTION FINAL EPISODE THE END OF THE DARKNESS
part 1
The karate master lunged up at merlin about to slash, merlin was out cold, asleep, not knowing whats going up to him. Suddenly a large bang was heard and the karate master was on the floor unable to move. There stood berlin with a broken bottle of rum in his hand.
The bang woke up merlin, "wa?" said merlin "that was my last bottle of 3 star brandy!!" said berlin "darn" "well get some sleep" said merlin
in his sleep merlin was thinking why berlin made that noise, but he was too tired to ask him. Merlin got up, looked around and saw a portal, it was round, purple and quite big. He looked at it and saw a dark shape, it looked very familiar in everyway until he found out that it was the black sorcerer. Merlin saw that he was doing bad things and killing creatures and men and even women, he saw the whole wizard council chained up and being wipped. He saw flames everywhere, dark skies, and lots of wasteland. Then a hand was put on merlin shoulder,it was ulin, "what you see merlin is what will happen if you do not defeat the black sorcerer" said ulin gravely
"we must act now" merlin knew he had to do it but he felt strange
sort of cold yet hot in a weird way. Next thing he knew he was in his bed realising it was just a dream, it was day and the troops were at ranks, wizards eating, drinking, or playing wasted. Still merlin thought he had to do it.alone. by himself . So he set off without telling anyone. The black sorcerers fortress he thought to himself
no one has ever set foot in the chambers of fire and ash.
merlin kept walking until his eyes met with a large, black, iron door filled with carvings of orcs, goblins and other evil creatures killing humans, wizards, elves, dwarfs, and clerics. The large door opened
slowly until the doors were wide open, and possible to see the dark black chambers. Merlin walked throught the passing doors and entered the black sorcerers inner sanctum.
Finally he saw light, bright white light that filled the room (or in this case arena) with white. There merlin saw the black sorcerer looking sinister and evil. "Merlin the blue" said the black sorcerer in an evil voice "why have you come?" "i have come to kill you" said merlin his voice rising "very well" said the black sorcerer
the dark overlords hand rose and where it pointed cracked, suddenly the wall's bricks came tumbiling down and risen to the air "take this!"
the rubble went flying into merliin with great speed causing him to topple down to the ground. "how do you like that, wizard?" exclaimed
the black sorcerer now laughing manicley "muhahahahahah"
merlin shot 6 energy pulse blastes on the ground that are now blasting the black sorcerer "arghhhhhhh!" shouted the black sorcerer
with great pain "well merlin you do have skill" said the black sorcerer
"lets see if you remember my specialty" "TRANSFORMATION!!"
the sinister overlord rose up and turned into a dragon, "ha!ha!ha! whos laughing now?" said the black sorcerer the dragon made a tremendous amount of inferno that covered pretty much half the corner of the arena. The flame caught merlins eye and-

The Legend of Merlin the Blue

Chapter 4

The First Shadow

Merlin woke up.
The wizard was in a very small cave, but not one he had seen before. The walls were black and damp, and there was no light in the tiny space. Merlin attempted to push at one of the walls, but it was too thick and didn't even give a tiny bit. He slumped back and tried to think. He could use magic, but for some reason he felt very tired, too tired to summon even a spark. Nonetheless, the blue wizard summed up his strength and started to pull the power down into his hand, but he just felt too tired...but why? Apart from a slight ache, wasting should have brought him back full of energy, but instead he could barely move...and it was so hot... Merlin felt like he was about to suffocate - and that's when he realised why he was so tired: the air in the enclosure was rapidly running out. The wizard pulled himself upright and focused on the wall. There had to be some way to get out. His thoughts returened to magic. If he couldn't channel his power to his hands - perhaps somewhere a little closer to home would work? Studying the wall, he found the weakest section and concentrated, trying to block out the doubt - if he failed to penetrate the wall, the power would burn up all of the oxygen and he would die. And if he didn't do something? The wizard guessed that if whoever had put him in here had intended to come back, he wouldn't have left Merlin in such a dangerous place. Focusing all of his strength into transporting the magic over it's short journey, he moved a large chunk of energy down into his eyes, and fired it out as a solid beam. Of course, Merlin had no way of knowing his progress, as the power shooting out of his eyes meant he couldn't see through them, but he guessed that after about a minute he would be through, if it were possible. After counting roughly sixty seconds, Merlin collapsed and lay still for a few moments, too exhausted to haul himself up. However, when he eventually looked up, he could see daylight, the brightness of which forced him to close his eyes for a little longer. When his eyes had adjusted to the light, Merlin ripped out parts of the gap until they were big enough to climb through, and found himself in a clearing, a familiar one - for this was the place where he had just battled the Scarlet Wizard's army, the place where...the memory of his death came flooding back, and suddenly he was angry. What had got into his so-called friends? He forced himself to clam down a little, and glanced around. The "tiny cave" had been the inside of a hollowed out tree. Merlin kicked some of the bodies out of the way and lay down to recharge his power, drawing goodness from the soil. When he felt strong enough, the wizard crouched low and darted over to the Cave of Thieves, inside which he could see Archer's army sleeping, tired out by the previous night's battle. Merlin checked his power, and found that the magic was flowing quite easily, and before he knew what he was doing, an energy blast had formed in his hands. He couldn't see Archer in the cave, but his golem was there, the one that had knocked him halfway across the battlefield. Merlin released the blast, which collided with the creature and hurled it right to the back of the cave, where it lay, before struggling to it's feet. Suddenly the whole army was awake, and the wizard realised that they may not have known anything about his being betrayed, and the confusion and urgency radiated by them suggested that he was right. The golem was standing now, and preparing to fight back, too. The army decided that Merlin was probably confused and ran at him, planning to restrain him until they could explain that this golem was on their side. Merlin hurriedly produced two more blasts, and hurled them, even as the first few skeletons collided with him and knocked him to the ground. The wizard struggled to look up, and when he did, he saw the golem's eyes flash...
But they flashed red.
Reinforced with new strength and determination, the blue figure rose and fired three more blasts, before being swamped by skeletons, determined to calm him down. Merlin couldn't see. Merlin couldn't hear. Merlin couldn't speak. He could barely even breathe under the mountian of skeletons and goblins, but still they kept coming, until all of them were on top of him. The wizard started to panic. He couldn't tell them to get off because he hadn't the breath in his body. He was just about to send a subelectric shock through the whole heap when they were blown off him by a wave of white power, which was coming out of the golem. The creatures stared in awe and confusion as wave after wave came out of the creature, until there was nothing left.
"What...on...EARTH IS GOING ON HERE???" the voice was coming from behind, and when he looked back, Merlin could see Archer standing in the entrance to the caves, looking rather beaten up.
"What happened to you?" asked Merlin, staring at the bruised goblin.
"As if you didn't know..." replied Archer angrily
"...Which I don't!" scowled the wizard, getting angry himself "Last time I saw you, you'd just shot me with an arrow!"
Archer stared at the wizard in the way you might look at someone who had just told you about how they befriended an octopus called Nelly while standing on the nearest shelf available to old mother Hubbard.
"Anyway, who did this to you?" asked Merlin, who was now realising that the goblin standing before him was not the same one who had shot him the day before.
"You did, and you know it!" replied Archer "But why? And since when can you make your eyes flash red?"
Merlin sat down on a rock and stared at the roof of the cave for a moment.
"What exactly did I do to you? Did I use magic? Or did I just use my fists?"
"Your fists..." said Archer, starting to realise what Merlin meant.
"And why would I do that? When I could simply use a few blasts and leave it at that?"
Archer sat on a nearby rock, and thought for a moment, then spoke once more:
"What was all that energy?"
"It came from some creature who was pretending to be your golem..."
Archer nodded slowly.
"I found my golem lying dead a little way into the forest. There is something going on here."
"Yes," agreed Merlin "but what?"
"I am not sure..." said the goblin, "but it changes nothing. We still have to go and rescue your brother. We don't know much, but we know that!"
Archer stood up and marched to the back of the cave.
"So," he said, with determination in his voice "we need a plan..."

***

"What the...?" said Jonathan, "So it wasn't Archer who shot you?"
"Not exactly, no..." replied Merlin, who was back to scratching at his stone.
The group had been travelling for four days since their encounter with the skeleton giants, and Merlin had insisted on walking for much longer than they had done before, meaning that by the time they had stopped it had been too late for any more of his tale. By the end of the third day Merlin had started to feel more relaxed, so on the fourth he was back to the story.
"So, uh...who was it, then?" asked Luke.
"It was...someone else," answered the wizard vaguely, dusting off his stone and holding it in out to look at "someone who we saw again before our troubles were over in that dark place..."
"So, he's not dead?" quizzed Jonathan.
"I don't know," replied the wizard.
"Uhu? So, uh...what's the stone?" asked Luke.
Merlin placed his finger on the stone and watched as a tiny spark danced along it, illuminating the little marks the wizard had made on it, then made the whole thing glowed blue before fading away. Merlin put it back in his robe.
"It's a stone." he said, stating the obvious.
"And...what's it for?"
"I don't know yet."
Jonathan stood and walked over to Merlin.
"Where did that spark come from?" he asked "I thought you'd had all of your power taken away?"
"Most of it, yes." replied Merlin "But you can't completely drain a wizard's strength."
"So, uh... what was Berlin doing all of this time? Did he try to escape?" Luke was speaking again.
Merlin stared into the campfire.
"He told me of what happened while I was preparing for the rescue attempt, and another source told me what happened in other parts of the fortress. I haven't mentioned any of this yet because I am not entirely sure where it all fits into the story, but...I suppose I could tell you a bit which probably comes in at about the point we are at now, if you want..."
"What, now?" asked Luke "But you never start again...I mean, I'd like you too, but..."
"I haven't told you any of this part of the story, so how can you know what style I will tell it in? Yes, I think I will continue. Right, well, you remember that skeleton who attacked me when I first entered the forest..."

***

Andor and his group trudged through the forest, exhausted from both the recent battle and the long walk to the Scarlet Wizard's fortress, where they had been told to go back again and get Merlin from under the tree, where he had been left to die. If he wasted, he would just reappear in the same place, so he would live a pretty terrible life. But General Saider had insisted that they return for the wizard.
"I do not like this," began Slicer, the skeleton's second-in-command.
"Nor do I!" snapped Andor "Or any of us. But the fact is, I am responsible for capturing this wizard, and you are my team, so we have to make the journey anyway. Understood?"
"He's probably already gone," muttered Slicer "a wizard could escape that thing if he tried hard enough!"
"Then we recapture him," replied Andor, not feeling at all confident that they could actually do such a thing.
He suddenly signaled to stop.
"We've arrived. Slicer, you come with me. All you others, keep watch." order the skeleton in hushed tones.
Then he and Slicer quickly darted across the clearing and over to the old oak in which Merlin had bee imprisoned. There was a hole in it, and it was empty.
"I told you," sighed Slicer.
"You should have said something at the time, then."
"I did. But you wouldn't listen."
Andor looked up.
"Well, we'll have to go and find him, then. At least we know where he is..." he pointed at the cave.
"That's all very well, but this wizard is a warrior. How are we supposed to capture him?" asked Slicer.
"We will play on his mind, I think. I remember all too well how he shattered me when he first arrived, and how many he took down in the battle yesterday, but...say the right things and he'll be weakened."
"I do not think that will work." said Slicer sceptically "We must surprise him..."
"Maybe my men can create a diversion that will leave his concentrations...elsewhere. You wait here. I'll tell them what to do."
Slicer nodded, and drew back a littke further, hiding himself from the cave, while Andor retreated into the forest and ran off to gather his men. As he waited, Slicer thought about his commander. He acted like a well-trained soldier, but Slicer knew him well enough to be sure that the skeleton would rather be living on some far-away island, where he could be left alone. There was some movement in the cave, and Slicer was immediately drawn away from his thoughts.

Andor was a little worried. His men had not positioned themselves in any vantage points, and at the time he couldn't even find them. He decided to go to the place where they had parted and see if they had stayed put for some reason. The skeleton approached the point where they had seperated and came to a stop.
He had found them.
Sort of.

***

"That was a little...short." commeneted Luke.
"Nonesense," replied Merlin "It was exactly the length I intended it to be."
"But...what did he find?" asked Jonathan "I mean, you only said that Andor sort of found his men..."
"Do you really expect me to answer that?" asked the wizard.
"Perhaps not..." replied Jonathan, and walked over to his blanket.

"And so another chapter of the tale has been told," thought the wizard to himself, as he sat, staring into the flames "and the first shadow has struck, again..."

Hopefully things are starting to get shorter now. And...OK, I haven't got much more to say, other than that I wonder why MR ROX! hasn't posted...?

By the way, somewhat behind on nanowrimo but have no doubts that I'm going to make it! Also, here's a little something from my novel...

It grasped at its bloody, mangled eye, and then spoke... “You think you are power incarnate, boy?” Its horrible voice chilled Aeo, who had just snapped out of his trance and realized the huge mistake he had just made. ”You shall see just how wrong you are. Face me!” Unwillingly, Aeo turned to face the thing. It lifted a gigantic foot... “NO!” Aeo screamed, launching a gigantic fireball at the missile of Aeroflesh coming down. The Ignisshift met its mark, and the member of the Seven screamed in agony. ”You shall pay with blood, insolent creature!” it said, but it was unsteady and weakened, and everyone could see it. And maybe just a little... scared. There were cries of “Ha! Not so brave now, are you!” and “Kill it! Kill it!” coming from gathered people, amazed and gleeful at this young student who was so easily and skillfully defeating the... thing without obtaining a single scratch. Aeo smiled, feeling tendrils of confidence creeping into his heart.
Oh, and before I forget, http://ywp.nanowrimo.org/userinfo.php?uid=77614 is my nanowrimo page, if you'd like to check me out.
Me thinkees that is all, bye!

mr#, you list Eoin Colfer amongst your favourite authors - he is actually from the same town in Ireland where I live. He did a book signing a while ago in the local bookcentre but I missed it because I am excessively stupid.

I allowed this swearing because the word that the swear word stood in for was 'stuff', and there is nothing offensive about stuff.

If he had said 'That's shit'. I would not have posted it since the intent (and effect) would be to hurt someone's feelings. It would therefore have been offensive.

Chapter 5

Raiders in the Night

Merlin awoke to the sound of screaming. He pulled himself to his feet and looked around. All around him was fire, panic, confusion, danger, death. He shook his head to clear it and looked around again. He was in some sort of castle or fortress, but one that did not seem like it would see another morning. As another burning tower collapsed before him the sound of something massive approaching became evident. Another tower fell, but this was not because of the flames. Merlin slowly turned around and watched with a growing sense of horror as the smoke cleared, revealing -

The wizard sat up and glanced around. A thin wisp of smoke was floating lazily from the extinguished flames of the campfire, but apart from Luke and Jonathan sleeping nearby, there was nothing to see. He let out a long, slow breath and lay back down, but Merlin soon realised that he was not going to get any more sleep, despite the fact that it was the middle of the night. Standing up, he decided to take the opportunity to look around, as he had never been in this desert when he was not in a great hurry to travel further. As he walked, the wizard realised that he was absent-mindedly reching into his cloak and into the pocket where his stone was. He pulled it out and looked at it for several long moments, before placing his finger on it and starting to summon the little power that had regenerated since he last put it into the stone. However, before he had a chance to begin the stone began to glow dimly with a strange blue light. He paused, then forced the gathered power into the stone, which hungrily sucked it in, then glowed a little brighter. Suddenly becoming aware of momvent nearby, he slipped it back into his robe and dropped to the ground.
A short distance away five or six skeletal figures could be seen in the faint moonlight, marching purposefully towards the road, and although it was doubtful that they knew it, they were also headed straight for the camp. The wizard quickly calculated that they would not be able to see the small settlement for several minutes, which would be enough time to prepare for the battle that would surely soon take place. As he darted over to the sleeping figures, Merlin thought back to when several giant skeletons had attacked the travellers, and how tired Jonathan and his brother had been during the fight. Even though this danger was of a smaller kind, there were more of them and the brothers would be tired. By the time Merlin had reached the camp, he'd already made his decision: the two men would not be woken unless it was absolutely necissary. Slipping stealthily past the sleeping Luke, the wizard tripped over a pile of firewood and fell flat on his face. He waited several moments before looking up, but the brothers had not awoken. He commando-crawled a few meters and came to where Jonathan's elaborately carved sword lay. He picked it up, then circled quickly around and joined the small procession of skeletons, marching with them as they drew ever closer to the sleeping men. When he felt the time was right, Merlin raised his sword and disconnected the head of the skeleton in front of him from it's body, stabbing the base of it's skull as it fell. Merlin noticed that the large diamond in the hilt of Jonathan's sword was glowing, something he had never seen it do before. He whipped the sword out of the skull. Before the body had hit the ground Merlin had already moved on, holding Jonathan's sword around the next skeleton's neck. The creature instinctively jerked it's elbow back, the bone crashing into it's attacker's chest with surprising force. While the wizard was stunned, the skeleton drew it's sword and turned to face it's opponent. Both skilled with swords, the two beings knew that the other would never make the first move: for skeletons are well trained and wizards aren't known for making mistakes. It was because of this they didn't bother to wait, instead simultainiously swinging their swords.
As he fell into the familiar rhythm of a sword fight with skeletons, Merlin remembered that they all had a tendency to fight in the same way, making them easy to defeat as soon as it had been done once. Using an old trick, he swung his sword as if to block an oncoming attack, but instead took a small step back, spun around and attacked from the left, rather than the pretended right. However, the wizard realised that this foe was smarter than he had thought, and had anticipated the move. The creature swung its fist to meet him and it connected solidly with Merlin's head, weakening him and opening him to attack. His opponent instantly took up this opportunity, striking out with powerful blows that the wizard could barely defend against. It would only be a matter of time, he knew, before he fell. And then what? The wizard wondered, Since I attacked from behind, they will spend several hours checking back to see if I had any allies. I will waste and return in time to defeat them before they have a chance of finding our camp...or will I? Merlin realised that he may not have enough power to waste, since it could take up to a year for a drained wizard to recharge his wasting energies after they had been used. Suddenly the blue wizard realised that he wasn't even concentrating on the battle. He shook off his worries and managed to find the strength to give a particularly vicious blow, which surprised the skeleton just enough for him to swing with another, throwing the sword to his left hand and bringing it up to strike from above. This time, however, the skeleton was in time to swing its sword up to block the manouver, but instead of retracting its arm as usual, it grabbed hold on the wizards hand and held it in place. Before Merlin realised what was happening, his opponent had used its free left hand to punch him in the chest, winding him. Stunned by the force of the punch, Merlin bent double, which allowed the skeleton warrior to kick him in the face. As the only half-concious wizard flew back, he lost grip on the sword and just managed to see the skeloton toss it into its left hand. The creature advanced and prepared to stab down, but Merlin rolled out of the way and the swords plunged harmlessly into the ground. Leaping to his feet, Merlin grabbed the body of the skeleton before it could straighten up and brought his knee up into the bone, more or less snapping his enemy in half. He quickly snapped the bones into smaller pieces and scattered them around so that regeneration would take longer and he would have time to tackle the other skeletons. Realising that the other skeletons were now coming, he grabbed one of the swords from the gave up on the bones and turned to face them. As he charged like a bull into his nearest attacker, the wizard wondered where his newfound strength was coming from. Almost in reply, the stone in his pocket warmed up and glancing inside his robes revealed to the wizard that it was glowing more brightly that it ever had before. As he punched his victim in the jaw with a well-executed uppercut, Merlin grinned. I think now would be a good time to see what else this thing can do... he though, and promptly folded his arms against his chest and jumped, landing on his opponents shoulders and kicking off immediately, tucking into a ball and performing a perfect 660 degrees flip, landing with considerable satisfaction. It had been declared offically impossible two years before, but apparently it wasn't. Merlin spun round and gave the creature a final kick, sending it straight to the ground. He grabbed its sword and drove it deep into the toppled enemies skull, before pulling it out and engaging in a battle with the next challenger. As he did so, Merlin made a mental note of the number of skeletons in the original group: 6, the number currently alive: 4 and the number currently capable of fighting: 3. In the past he had punched more than this to death for the fun of it. This would be easy, unless the extra skill they possessed was especially great, and even so that would only make it take more time. Once again he was forced to pull himself back into the battle at hand, to concentrate on the two enemies in front of him...two? Merlin sighed. Skeletons were not usually intelligent enough to think of both fighting at once, but once again he had forgotten about the unusual skill of these particular enemies. As he fought, Merlin realised that he could not hope to defeat them like this. Sensing an attack from behind, he backflipped over the newcomer, taking care to kick both of his previous enemies in the chin as he did so. The wizard landed behind his new opponent, remembering just in time to plunge his sword into the base of its skull before it could turn round. The wizard noticed the dead enemy slump loosely, still on his sword, so he swung it, the blade smacking into the others. He then let the corpse slide off the sword. Running forward, Merlin leapt over the dazed skeletons, but was surprised to see that one of them was stabbing its sword upwards to meet him. The wizard twisted out of the way, but the sword still pierced his robes, striking against the stone. As he spun madly to the ground, Merlin noticed that the skeleton had disappeared, only a sword and a little ash to show that it had ever been there. The wizard realised with a start that the stone had done this. He also realised that he had dropped his sword, and that the other warrior was now approaching. Before he realised what he was doing, Merlin leapt into the air and twisted, hoping to avoid the upwards blow. However, his opponent had been ready for him, and it thrust its sword right through the wizard's back, the weapon brushing against Merlin's power stone, as the other had. As he fell again, Merlin saw a flash before the skeleton was consumed. However, this was not at the front of Merlin's mind: he was more concerned about the fact that he had been stabbed, and... He groaned loudly, remembering that his second opponent would be reassembled right about now...and sure enough, the skeleton was approaching, probably wanting to make doubly sure that the wizard was dead. It suddenly paused and turned, and the injured wizard realised that it was looking at the roadside camp where Luke and Jonathan were sleeping. With a desperate roar, Merlin hurled himself at the skeleton, the sword tip that potruded from his body stabbing into the base of its skull. The wizard lay there for several long minutes before wrenching the skull off of the blood-stained sword and attempting to walk back to the camp. He fell and attempted to crawl a little further, but the pain was too great.
And that is how, with a final gasp, Merlin the Blue of Aldevar died.

In the morning, the brothers awoke to find the wizard gone. They soon found his body, and after removing the sword they spent most of the day digging a grave. They then took his power stone and placed it between his lifeless hands, before lowering him into the hole. They had a short funeral, then buried the wizard, retrieved Jonathan's sword, and silently dismantled the camp, placing the remaining firewood in a cross shape over the grave. It was no more than a goblin's tombstone, but it was all the two brothers could do. They then continued on their way to Tacea, not looking back once.

To be continued...

Hmm. Maybe now some of the people who have mysteriously cut short their writing will get on with it? Somehow I doubt it.
So, uh...cough.

you dont need to thank me i just put all of them together
it was hopeless...

1 red wizard and 2 builders vs. gigantic army of goblins.

the red wizard blasted, and one goblin fell to the ground.
the goblins crept closer. it would still take them about 8 hours to reach us.
one of my builders made a rough hut, where soldiers were quickly trained.
the builder collapsed from exhuastion. huts are hard to make you know.
a rather inexpirienced archer came out of the hut, and was looking out for goblins
a few minutes later, a guy who had been taught to use an odd weapon called the strupple came out.
he fired it, and it seemed to go a few kilometres, but didnt reach the goblins.
just then, a ball of fire came whizzing towards us. the red wizard and builder were injured.
as the goblins continued to march forward, an apprentice wizard and another archer came out of the hut.
the first archer reported that the goblins had reached the hill where the strupple landed.
the builder and wizard had recovered, and the builder was working on another hut.
the strupple guy and goblin mages began firing madly at the other side.
balls of fire, ice, and energy began whizzing past the small group.
besides knocking over the water tin, freezing the second archer, and scorching the builders half finished hut, it didnt do much damage.
then came a barrage of arrows, one hit the first archer and atleast 3 hit the hut.
the archers fought back fiercly.
the strupple guy tied string to his strupple and it tied up some goblins.
the ice around the second archer melted, and the archer fired two arrows
some of the goblin soldiers were running ahead
the first line of goblins was nearly destroyed, and most of the army was in the hut.
by now the second hut was finished.
the wizards continued to fire at the goblins, but firey blasts wasted the apprentice wizard and hurt the red wizard.
another red wizard came out of the second hut, fired a few blasts, and went back in the hut.
the goblin soldiers were destroying everyhing in thrir path.
the warriors reached us.
the wizards destroyed the first line, and knocked over a goblin with heavy-looking armor.
the archers and strupple guy came out of the hut, and a warrior came out of the other hut.
all the second line fell to the ground.
all the third line goblins pointed their bows at the wizards.
the stupple guy threw more strupples.
the strupples distracted the goblins, but the wind was picking up and they flew in the opposite direction, hit the first hut, and exploded.
the hut was damaged, but the builders quickly repaired it.
more fireballs and arrows were blasting by.
another water tin was knocked over.
more heavy-armoured goblins ran up, but some were stopped by energy blasts.
the archers hid.
another barrage of arrows hit everyone except the blue wizard and the archers
a stick caught on fire and soon the warrior was using it as a weapon.
strupples were bursting before they hit the goblins.
firey arrows began to hit the ground, but the fires were put out by the red wizard.
more flaming arrows came, and the strupple guy was injured
everyone fought off more rows of goblins.
the archers were hitting goblins in rows further in,and occasionally hit a box or a water tin.
many goblins were shooting arrows as fast as they could, but forunately, most wernt accurate.
by now, the goblins were getting pushed back a little, but were still shooting arrows very quickly.
a red goblin at the back was protecting a larger, blue goblin which was shooting exploding arrows.
now,two more warriors came out of the second hut and were fighting past some small goblins behind two red goblins.
TO BE CONTINUED

lol but there's all of them

The World of Lore
Chapter 1
The Beginning

Out I came into the world, a healthy baby boy eager for learning. “Isn’t he a cute baby?” I heard. “Oh my!" my mother exclaimed as she saw my birthmark. "It looks just like your father's birthmark. This could only mean trouble." Then the next thing I remember was that people surrounded me...all staring at me. Only it was not me they were staring at. It was the strange mark on my palms. "Oh ok. He's coming around now," was what some person said. "Son...son are you ok?"
I could barely whimper. "Shhhhhh. You must conserve your strength." I blacked out after being awake for about five minuets.
"Isn't he cute?" I heard a recognizable voice there, but still was too dizzy to focus hard enough to actually know who or what it was. "Yes. He sure is honey." After that, I held up my hands to be picked up. I heard a loud crash followed by a gasp. "He...he...he has my mark, just like his brother also." "Well, we must do something about it. If we don't, then he will surely die." "Yea. We might as well teach his brother while were at it."
I was taken outside where a man opened up a portal. A woman had some other child in her arms. My mind finally became clear. I am a child. They are my mom and my dad. Yet I still did not know who the other child was. As I was carried through the portal, I saw my mom come with me still taking the child along.

Chapter 2
Energy Spark

Almost as soon as I went through the portal, we came out of it. It was a land ravaged by evil, corrupted by death, and demons of all sorts roamed the land. We appeared in the middle of the woods.
“Ok Merlin now is the time you learned.” A green spell was put on me and I grew taller, older, and gained more knowledge. “Merlin,” my mom said, we will now teach you and your brother the spell that your father learned while he was your age.” “Brother? I have no brother. It is just I. Right?” “Wrong. You were never an only child. Berlin was born before you.” “Berlin?” “Yes.” “Merlin my brother!” At that point, someone ran up to me and hugged me. “Berlin,” I asked, “is it you?” “Merlin,” Berlin said, “yes ‘tis I.”
“Now that we have all been introduced, maybe we can get on with your training.” “Yes mom.” “Your father will teach you your first spell and the basics of magic.” At that, my mother stepped through the portal, and Berlin, Dad, and I were just left there. “Now then kids, to learn the Energy Spark, you must first be able to read the ancient writings of the Olmecs. They were the ones who discovered the power of raw energy and were able to use it at they are own cost, yet only a select few were chosen to be worthy of the honor. Their skin was branded in a way that forever changed their DNA. You two boys have been gifted by receiving the mark that they have had. You posses the power of raw energy. Unfortunately, the Olmecs were afraid that their powers would be stolen and copied. Therefore, they made up a new form of language to hide it from enemies. Fortunately though, that language was English.” Berlin was watching a fly buzz above his head instead of paying attention. “These writings were written on scrolls. Few of which have been discovered. In addition, fewer have been able to work. But this is the first spell that was discovered and used.” He showed Merlin the scroll and he recited the words on it. Nothing happened. “Merlin, you have to wave your hands above your head and you must say the words quickly.” I did just as I was told and a small ball of yellow appeared above my head. “Now you must focus on where you want the spell to go. Again, I did as I was told and the ball of energy nimbly went to the desired spot. A small ‘bang’ was heard at the point of target. “Wow,” I exclaimed. Berlin finally showed some interest in what we were doing and stopped watching the fly. “Let me try“, he exclaimed so loudly that his voice could’ve woken the dead. I handed him the scroll and he did as I was told. He even was able to make a crack form in a rock. “Awesome!” Listen to me now boys this is a big deal. This spell and all the others you will find are for SELF-DEFENCE ONLY.” He said that in such a voice it could have scared all the evil out of this area. Berlin and I said almost in unison, “Yes daddy.”
I managed to topple a tree and then turn it into sticks. Berlin aimed for the flies that buzzed around a near-by bog. A wild shot nearly hit me square in my head, yet I paid it no attention.
We stepped through the portal and I saw my mom outside.

Dear robert:
Fear not, yon fool! Did thee not notice that one placed "To be continued..." on the end of the chapter, when one had never done it before?
It's a sorta sign that all will be well in aproximately 2 weeks, or however long it takes me to write the next chapter. I just like being dramatic and stuff. I mean, I wouldn't just finish there, would I? Although I don't really expect you to bother, if you look hard enough through the chapter you will probably get a good guess on what's to happen next.
And I plan to have at least ten chapters, so...

And, nice to at least hear from you, MR ROX!. I personally don't mind how long you take, as long as you finish the book eventually. No pressure.

Okay. Scrap the last attempt at chapter 14, i dont like it. so if u read it, just ignore it now.
To tell you the truth, when I came up with the name 'The Soldier in the Night', I had absolutely no clue what I was going to do with it. Sure, theres a bunch of soldiers in the story. Sure, some of the stuff that happens, happens at night. But what is it? What is the Soldier in the Night?

Thinking, I came up with a (what I think is) a great idea, and it in fact connects to one of the new plots that I have recently brought up. And so begins a new 'part' in the story. A part in which much will be revealed. A part in which history will come to life. And finally, a part in which Merlin will find the flame. The essence. Of what?
Patience... and find out, you will.
Actually, if you want to get a heads up, then search a couple words that you think might mean something - if you hit the right ones, you'll get an idea of what could be the big banging idea to come!

Happy New Year
Hope you had good holidays
And happy reading - this is the first chapter in the part, but hopefully more will come before the New Year!

The Soldier in the Night

PART 2
Revealing the Flame: A Journey Through My Mind

Chapter 1
Budding Plans, Flowering Troubles

Flames came and went, destroyed and healed. I looked at the flame in front of me, stared curiously. It bowed down to me, and I stood up straighter, feeling in command. Suddenly, the flame grew, and grew, and grew. But I still felt like I stood over it. It grew and grew and grew. Until it consumed me.
I awoke, shaking, my heart beating rapidly. The pleasant night carried a warm wind that soon eased my body. I stretched out on my makeshift bed, pondering.
In the last few days, it seemed like I was the cause of my whole group's troubles. First I got captured, then I got knocked out...
In the last few days, it seemed like Telfon had become much stronger. First he saved me from the goblins, then he killed a rock golem, then he saved Berlin. My brother. He saved my own brother from certain death.
His deeds definitely overweighed mine right now. And yet I could not do it. I could not admit I had messed up bigtime. And if I couldn't do that, all I could do would be to put Telfon down.
And to do that would be blashpemy. Complete destruction of the nice atmosphere I had created for my army. I would become the opposite of what I had been before. I would become their master.
How could I think these things? Was it only from jealousy? Something else, too, I'd say. Only, now, until I could figure out what it was, my mind would follow a one-track path. Fix the problem by demoting Telfon. By showing who has the real strength.

***********************************************
Centuries ago

The stars twinkled, the world turned, the Sun flashed its brilliance. An army of creatures had crossed the sea, over which nothing was known to the wizards.
Venificus looked at his wizard council.
"Look at at the sea! He said.
The wizards all peered at the ceiling, able to convey different parts of the land to the wizards.
"What are they, Venificus?"
"Those, wizards, are the begginings of a species which I see will become something much more powerful."
"More powerful then the wizards?" One wizards asked.
"How do you know this?" Another asked.
"They are devils!" A tall one yelled.
"Quiet, quiet," Venificus whispered. "I have had a vision." Silence struck the room. "I saw these things, these tiny creatures, as flames. Thousands and thousands of tiny flames. But then they all grew into one! And woe, it was strong. But I stood before them, and watched, as the flame split apart suddenly. Two different branches. Both were of the same strength. But then one of them approached me, and I gazed at it. And I saw it lust for power."
Silence remained like a blanket, smothering all the thoughts of the wizards. Until one spoke, "Yet you still have not answered: will they overwhelm us?"
Venificus paused for a moment, looking unsure for the first time in years. "I am afraid, that is still yet to be seen."

***********************************************

A new day had dawned, and with it came what felt to be a new me. A new Merlin, who had some necessity, although he could still not place what it was. Urgent, he knew, and that's all he knew.
Telfon, Quint, Ceirus, and Berlin were all still there, as Merlin had never unsummoned any of them. They were as vibrant as ever, and Berlin was entertaining them around a small table, swallowing balls of energy and spitting them back out like real, solid objects.
I smiled and joined the group watching Berlin, nudging between Telfon and Quint. Teflon grimaced - he couldn't see well from the side.
After we had all snagged a small breakfast, Berlin stopped his fancy tricks and grabbed a few bites to eat as well.

Not long later, we were discussing plans in my tent. Our next step was clearly to overtake the goblins, wherever they were going, and find out where they had some outposts.
"Finding their main area of rest would be useless. Their could be hundreds of goblins, and just as many rock golems for all we know. I suggest splitting up into two groups. One will follow the mountains' borderline, almost definitely leading to another small lair of rock golems, and perhaps ultimately leading to an outpost, that could be very useful in our hands. The other group I suggest leave this area, and enter the realm most commonly associated with goblins. This way we can discover whether the goblins have taken the rock golems to their villages."
Telfon nodded and stated, "I'll go along the mountains. It will most likely be a more dangerous route, and we will need the strongest of our soldiers there." Telfon looked over to Quint and Quint nodded.
Berlin began to agree, when I interrupted, "Actually, I'll go with Telfon and Sanguis, an archer who hasn't seen much action lately. Hopefully we will be able to train him together, and by the time we get to the enemies, we will be a strong group together."
Telfon lowered his eyes, and Quint was dismayed. "So what shall I do?" Quint asked.
"You will go with Berlin and a couple other men, and go on the second path. I will communicate to Berlin through magic, and each of us will relay newly gathered information to our soldiers.
"We prepare today, rest tomorrow, and leave in two days time."

The Soldier in the Night

Chapter 2
Mankind

Telfon bowed down low to Merlin. So low, in fact, that his head touched the ground. Then, in absolute acceptance, he announced, "All hail Merlin the Wizard!"
Quint stared at him, and Berlin gave him this funny look, but Telfon continued: "By the gracious law of the master, I will serve with love."
Merlin looked disgusted for a moment, but Telfon refused to halt. "Until death I serve, with sword blazing high."
Merlin was about to pause and think, yet his decision came an instant later.
"Right! I guess it's time you guys get preparing!" And Merlin walked away.
Unease raced from Quint to Berlin and back again, and the two walked away.
Leaving me alone, Telfon thought. Alone to deal with Merlin myself. Why? I suppose in a way it is almost to say 'you are stronger and wiser than us. We shouldn't get involved, lest we ruin it more.' Wiser than a wizard?

***********************************************
Centuries ago

"Order! I demand order!"
One of the creatures grunted and growled, "You demand nothing from me!"
"I demand you to obey me. And if you refuse - death!"
The rebellious creature drew his sword and cried, "Death to yourself, you idiot! How do you plan to kill me, if none of your unruly creatures will listen to you? Conquer this land! You couldn't conquer my foot with this bunch! I say, who wants to win?"
"I!" Hundreds of the creatures yelled.
"Follow me, then! Leave this stupid leader to feed off the dirt."
A cry of salvation shook the sky, and many of the creatures began following this new, rebelling creature.
Yet the first leader could not give up so fast! "What is this? What is this? You follow this stranger? I have taken you across the blue land, that all have said is impassable" -
"And I will lead you to victory! Don't mind him, follow me. Follow me." The rebellious creature retorted.
But then another one took the stage. "You dimwits! That creature is only for war. What will you do once you win? You will have no food! You will have no house! Die, if you wish to go with him. I seek to win a throne of power, not war! Growth of body and mind. Join me, and we will win the war, not through sheer strength, but through cunning. Win the war with pride!"
Another set of cheers shook the sky, and the one who had first rebelled shook with rage. "Pay no mind, creatures. Let us go and conquer!" With that he left the crowd, with a huge number of followers trailing behind.
"You see those cowards!" Although there were not many creatures left, the second rebellious being stood tall. "Those creatures may be numerous, but we can prevail! Cunning, my friends. Power of the mind! It is what will make us, what will make Mankind!"
A wild cheer broke out, "Mankind! Mankind! Mankind!" and although they were only about a quarter of the group, they could understand that they were only a quarter, and were proud of it. For those other creatures had no understanding. They were only many, with no purpose except war. These Mankind, they found pride and wealth in their poverty.
Sadly, the poor creature who had brought all these beings across the sea, was left alone with but a few large guards.

***********************************************

Telfon was stuck in a rut. If he now went over to Merlin and argued with him, his little speech of loyalty would be blatantly revealed as sarcasm. Although Merlin, Berlin, and Quint already knew this, they would not dare speak of it out loud unless it was 100% clear.
If he didn't go, however, it would continue. Merlin would continue with his immense arrogance, knocking down Telfon with harsh words until Merlin was sure he was the stronger of the two.
And am I stronger than him? Telfon thought.
Undoubtedly, Merlin could pound Telfon into the ground with energy blast any time. But why was Telfon the one to constantly come to Merlin's aid? Why was he the one to wreak carnage on the goblin incessantly?
And the hatred for those goblins. So pure and yet so disgusting. A hatred for all these vile creatures! From where was his hatred for Merlin budding? And from where was Merlin's?
Telfon was all packed, and he looked up at the darkening sky. Stared at the constellation, that one, that legend. Or maybe a truth.
Telfon Irdin stared up at Sevaan, his outline so clear. And his bow not as clear.

And when Telfon stared more, he did not like what he saw.

***********************************************

The ninjas whispered to each other quietly, unsure what to do.
"They are not unified - we could try to ransack their tents, and grab anything we can hold," Lira whispered.
"I disagree. An alliance would be much more useful right now. They do have the same objective as we do - at least for now. We could cut a deal, making sure we get the better side of things of course, and our strength will be doubled at least," The leader whispered back.
"Work with a wizard? It's risky. And if I'm not mistaken there's two of them," Lira said skeptically.
"The purple one has been keeping to himself. He'll just follow the blue one with whatever he says."
"Fine. We will attempt a treaty. Anyways, that way we will be able to shake off those wild martial artists that keep on following us a day behind."
"Then it's decided. We'll approach them in the early morning," The leader concluded.

I have a few things to say.

Whoever who did, thanks, to the person who editted my MR stories into a folder. That was really nice. Thx.

Also, MR ROX!, what do you think of my stories? I never really got any feedback from you.

And finally, it makes me sad when people say that their writing is terrible because of their age.

I just wanted to say, I am 12 also, not some 15 or 16 year old teenager. Also, I am starting to feel stresssed out. I have absolutely no clue where I should put my stories where everyone will see them. Ver 1, 2, or 3.

Also, steve, do you think you could just make the comment boxes just a tad bigger? They are kinda small and I'm a bit clausterphobic.

Thx everyone!

The MR series will have a different title now. Yet again.

Magical Fields

I recognized Berlin. But the other troops, I did not know. They were pink, and there were 3 of them. One archer, one swordsman, and one monk.

Berlin grinned at me. "All better?"

I felt all better, but my mind swarmed.

"Uhhh... what happened?" I groaned.

"Well, you and your troops were totally knocked out. I took them into my reserve and summoned my troops to get us into safety." Explained Berlin.

"With those three?" I said incredulously.

"They're stronger than you think. And how about giving some respect for your rescuers?" Grimaced Berlin.

"Bleh. What happened to my soldiers?" I asked.

"I'll summon them." Said Berlin.

In a moment, Berlin summoned my troops. They were definitly mine, however, they were all-

"PINK!" I cried. "They're all pink!"

"Yeah, so?" He retorted. "Just take them in and summon them. They'll be blue.

"Crazy!" I roared.

"Moo!" Grumbled Berlin.

"Uh, master..?" Interrupted Arleton, the Great Knight. "What has happened to you? You're not yourself at all!"

"Take a look around, mister," I grumbled.

"It's kinda greyish," said Torrin, the Exhalted Knight.

"Yeah," prodded Berlin. "Why do you think that?"

"Oooh. Is it... the... Magical Alliace..?" Stammered Altevar, the Grand Archer.

"Yeah, and the Magical Alliance sucks the living daylights of magic energy out of the forest. There's hardly any energy for Berlin and I to absorb and utilize. It weakens us and makes us grumpy." I growled.

"More so you than I," claimed Berlin.

"Pah!"

"I don't even know why I saved you."

"I don't know either." I said sardonically. Cynically with great glee, I continued, "Now, we must ask ourselves, why, would you save me, if you despise me so much? Why?"

"Why you filthy-" Berlin stopped, and assumed an odd look. "Holy cow. Why did I even bother thinking about saving you?"

"Yes we must ask ourselves," said Brother Berlin, and at that, stooped down, yanked out a tuft of grass, and put it in his mouth.

My troops looked at each other.

"Oh, jeez. We'd better take care of them." Said Grazzart, Robin Arrowman. "They're not going to be aware of what they're doing."

"Yeah?" I challenged. "So, I bet you can make that grass do a hula dance? Ha! Even a tuna could digest that dog!"

"No kidding," the rest of the army, Berlin's and mine chorused.

Now, I am not sure what happened next. All I knew was that there was this dog that started to tap dance, and the tuna got angry and threw a potion at him, and since it was a strength potion, the dog got fatter.
----
Weird story, eh? Don't worry. It won't stay like that.

Shades of Blue
--------------

Merlin paced around in his study. It had been quite a while since his last adventure had taken place. Ulin and the rest of the council had been pacing the land back and forth for info on the Black Sorcerer and his minions.

Ulin then burst into the study, gasping for breath. His grey robes were covered in scorch marks and his face covered in ash. "Ulin!" Merlin did not expect him to come to early. He led Ulin to a thick oak table, and a sturdy chair. Ulin gasped for breath. "They've invaded the tower- Some sort of Firy spectre..." Ulin then provoked his art of fine storytelling to weave Merlin a tale of a lone sentry and the Master magician himself. "They came when we looked in the Forest of Tnei Cna.."

In the thick fog covering the entire mass of land that was a forest, Some blurry shapes appeared on the edge of the fog. Ulin and Sentry #1337 wondered through the forest, looking for another Sentry, and looking for any details. "Cap'n, the fog is too thick. It's like somebody decided to take a giant steam bath." Ulin nodded. "Set up camp. I'll explore on my own." He lit a fire in his hand magicly, the grey-coloured fire dancing in his hand, but with no heat coming to Ulin's hand. Ulin then began to set off near a rocky cliff.

He thought he heard a roar or so, but there were wild beasts out here. Nothing he cannot handle. A shape loomed out in the thick greyness of the fog. Another Sentry? Ulin shouted. "Hello? is anybody there?" He walked closer and closer, and found it was the Sentry, all right. Their skeletons, anyway. Ulin looked on the ground. Scattered broken shields and swords lay everywhere, Bite and scratch marks upon the dull armour on the dead bones of what used to be a Sentry. Ulin managed to find a decent sword- one that seemed to be stabbed at the ground. Ulin did not understand, and picked it up. "Fine blade. Balanced pretty good. Shame.." He looked at what was it's owner. Ulin summoned a Sword sheath, and put it in, but not without testing the sword first. Ulin was amused by his skills. He hadn't used one in 500 years or so.

A jet of flame also wanted to see the Master's skills. Or rather, just destroy the master of the sword himself.

Ulin.

This graveyard was consisting of many ghosts, Necromancers, and other skeletons, and The Magical Alliance was here. We are about to attack The Magical Alliance in their own camp, and we were going to win.
My name is Gammor, My Lords personal best warrior, levelled up to 3 big stars.
The attack is about to begin, and I was going to win.

Wow. It's been a long time.

First of all, I don't know if anyone remembers me.... lol..... im sure there are a few people that do (darren *cough* *PLEASE!* *cough* ;) ), but anyways i decided to make a return, whether it lasts or not we shall see, but it is at least a return.
I probably won't do anything besides the stories though....... which brings me to my next point.

I'll try to continue the story during the summer. I still have my ideas shortly written in a file on microsoft word, which is good. Maybe it will inspire other people to continue writing the stories...... or maybe they were gonna do that anyways :D
I noticed that there is a version 3 of this, so I'll post this message there as well, and when/if i make another story it will go in version 3 i suppose.

Lastly, and the reason why im also posting this is version 2, is thanks gammor for reviving my story a bit ;) . I think I'll be able to use an army that's against merlin, so maybe it will be this strong one with the leader named gammor.

Anywho, i have a feeling this whole post is gonna seem almost out of place, since it's been my first one in so long and probably most of you have no idea who i am, and many of you who were around when i was also probably dont know who i am since im not all that important :D .

Oh, and my final little tribute in this post:

then we got more troops (100 warriors 20 archers 6 monks 10 dwarves) but then 500 more meeps came out of the cave and attacked us but we held them off and then a poison meep(boss meep) came out and shot energy blasts but they were green and did no knockback or dammage but then my troops hit buy the blasts were turning a little bit green and were slowly getting hurt while the ones hit many times buy the blast were very green and lossing hp very fast but then when they hot to 5% hp they stopped lossing hp the monks were healling them but the poison meepwas poisoning my troops faster than my monks were healling them and then my troops fell, one by one and them we got telleported to the towers of the (forgot the name) and ulin and the rest of the concil was there.ulin:"you weren't saying anything so we checked things out and found you in troble so we send some more troops while we were charging the teleporting spell"merlin:"yes and my troops were attacked by a new affect, i think it is poison"ulin:"poison??? no one we know of exept that new enemy you fought has that!"merlin: we met a scout and he told us that there is countless numbers of meeps and that they have an army of 2000 captive deep in a city named mehoa in a.... er, he got hit by a fireball then and thats when the fight began. we will need a big army to take the meeps on"ulin:" yes, i will tell the troops to prepare".

MEEPS VS WIZARDS CHAPTER 1(meep's piont of veiw)
a new war
part 1

it was one more peaceful morning for them meeps, knowing that they had defeated all preveous enemies, won all wars.today was different, some new troops had found us and we sent meeps to get them, soon they were all caught, for then next few weeks there were more scouts and then an army of thousands, came and attacked, they shmashed though our gaurds and went for our home city, mehoa.
we sent all of our army, including the elite guard, eventauly we fought them off and our city was safe, but a group of 200 tried to escape but we cought them, and put them at the back of the city mehoa.that tought us to make sure that no attack could contact renforcements. we suceeds on this exept one time, where there was a wizard, probly the leader of the forces, but he seamed too weak to be the leader. we had sent the leader of one of the elite gaurd to fight him off, and we suceeded but, we prepared for a larger attack as we blew up to tower they had built becuse if they team up with our old enemy, the skelletons, there was no hope......

MEEPS VS WIZARDS (just for the fun of it) ROUND 3 (ding ding)

merlin had ben cut off from the other wizzards and he had to beat the meep army, bigger than before.

merlin somoned a lot of builders and the builders built huts.
one hut updraded to a factory and a tank came out.
the huts make troops and the lighting meeps were back........
lightning meeps tried to shoot bolts at merlin but he donged them and went into the factory.
the factory upgraded to a bunker.
the warriors were doing whatever they could to deffend so the put up barbed wire and dug diches and layed mines.
the builders made towers and walls.
the lighnig meeps were trying to destroy the towers from range, and 5 towers got destroyed and 1 builder got scared and ran away to the hut.
a apretice wizard came out and somoned some warriors.
then a super archer came out of the hut and shot an arrow at a lighting meep disabing it.
the lighing meeps saw the wizard out in the open and shot bolts at him and he got wasted.
while all the fighting was going on a brown meep had built a nest 4 towers and a long range tower.
then it upgraded the long range tower to long range tower 2 and it shot blue meeps right into the fort.
the meep army was near the fort and the fire meeps had taken up position and fired fireballs at the fort.
merlin sumoned a super duper archer and it went and fired bomb arrows at the long range tower 2.
bomb meeps got to the towers and blew up and there was a small gap in the line.
red meeps had trown some green meeps over the walls and they attacked builders but they were quickly stoped.
flying meeps droped bombs on towers and builders.
a flying archer( an archer with a jet pack) came out of the bunker and attacked the flying meeps but the flting meeps shot pellets.
spark meeps jumped into huts and set them on fire, then out of each buning hut a fire meep came out then the hut colapsed.
a group of ice warriors had destroyed many of the fire meeps and spark meeps.
meenwhile the brown meep had made a camp and more brown meeps camek out, they started to build.
water meeps had come though the river and many troops at that river died because of the watter meeps attacks but soon fire warroirs picked the watter meeps out of the water and they soon died.
yellow meeps summoned by drey meeps were a big problem and the poison meep leading the army had made many troops weak.
the brown meep camp had make an army and sent it to fight on the other side of the fort and it destroyed some towers but couldn't break though.
relizing the threat a plottoon of soildiers went to deffend the flank and soon a bigger attack went there but it was stoped.
some of the souldiers were being frozen by the ice meeps that had taken over huts and frozen them.
it looked hopeless for merlin, but he finaly got the comications working and called berlin and he came.
berlin went around healing soilders and curing thier poison he also summoned some builders and they helped build.
belin called his friend darlin and he killed many light meeps that were blinding troops.
then soon most of the army had ben killed
then when the whole army had ben desrted a new kind of meep came.
it was one of th first meeps!!!!!!
it's blasts bestroyed everything in it's path and it was running low on hp when it got to the bunker so it fleed.
darlin knowticed the meep camp was now a fort, they had to destroy it.
merlin bumped into an invisable meep and blasted and killed it.
merlin called lorlin and he lit up the area, slowing them so see invisable meeps.
when they looked for them they found a lot in the bumker and quickly cleared them out.
they they gathered an army and repaired the fort.
a green meep holing a white flag came and it got a pen and wrote "may we have a lunch break?" and merlin say yes and picknic tables poped up all over the place and everone ate, i'll tell u more later.

5 hours later.......

everyone was full so they had to wait more cuz they were too full

2 hours later.......

everyone got back in thier forts and the meeps sent a big force for ulin, he was walking though the forest and then he usend his majic ball and saw they were 2 days away but antimajic meeps stoped him from teleporting
ulin told the builder that went with him to build a hut and he did, be he colapsed from exation, huts are hard to make you know.
then a archer and a builder came out of the hut.
the builder made a tower and the acher went in it, to it gave to tower +10 rang and +15 attack and +2 attack speed
the builder made a wizard's hut and an apretice wizard came out
a builder made a kichen and a cook came out of a hut and went in and cooked bread
then builders set up towers and huts and one went to a hut and grabed a spear and hunder a deer and brought it to the cook
the cook turned the deer in pepperoni and grabed some cheeze and cut it up into strips.
a rather hungey uber archer came out of a hut and then the hut fell apart cuz it had no more troops
the cook went out and grabed some tomatoes and turned them into sauce
he put the sauce on the bread and the cheeze on the suace and the pepperoni on the cheeze and cooked it and gave the pizza to the uber archer and the acher ate the whole thing and it
shot an arrow at a red meep in the front line
the cook brought out a lot more pizzas and everone ate

i'll tell you the rest later
