Either in battle or if the army follows you around, then any time.

This idea sounds good to me. There could even be different ranks of knights that would cost more! There could be so much customization, like rank, armor, shield, weapons... Wow, that would be so cool!
Whoah, Morsh. Let's not get too ahead of ourselves. I'd just be happy with a regular warrior/knight/whatever. I think the different ranks and stuff should be left for a later MR. This is NOT, however saying it's a bad suggestion. I think it would be great later, but I'm not sure everything should get that complicated.

It is a good idea but i personally think that it might make things a bit too easy. Possibly just a Knight/Warrior with out a shield...Make things a bit more interesting!
Yes it would if Merlin has the amount of power that he has now, but I'm planning to make him less powerful and have more and harder enemies to fight so that the helpers will have a role to play.

He'd be even better if he was a enemy. Like, he could slash you with a sword that does the same damage as a Skeleton Warrior and he could be fast. His health could be of a quadranid.

About the ranks, maybe this would happen:
tier0 Pheasant

Here is an explanation.
Pheasants kick and punch and are weaklings.
Squires are like pheasants but have more health and defence* and attacks with a sword.
Rockthrowers (obviously) throw rocks and has more health and defence.
Soldiers are Squires with a shield* and more health and defence.
Novices are a tinier (and punier) version of an archer, he has less health, less defence, a short bow* (shorter range), does less damage and no chance of special arrows*.
Knights has an full body metal armour* that protects greatly from any form of kinetic damage and has a much better sword than a soldier.
Barbarians wield 2 weapons at a time but he has no shield and has little concern for his own safety.
An archer has a normal bow*(normal range) and has a small chance of firing a special arrow*.
Knightlords get horses and have the full body Unknown1# armour which is almost indestructable against every kind of kinetic damage.
Berserkers do so much damage so fast, they also have absolutely no corcern for their own safety.
Kings archers have long bows*(long range)and an increased chance for shooting a special arrow.

I like your suggestion a little Hugh_Jass; it may need to be shortend out a little though.
I think that the warrior should get resistance to knock-back damage as they level up or a chance to block arrows based on how powerful the unit that shot the projectile is. Right now a few level 1 goblins could beat any warrior given time because the warrior never gets close enough to swing at them.
True dat, Sketch. They need knockback resistance.
Or maybe some sort of block skill which could block other melee units as well as missiles to mix up the combat a little so that one lucky warrior wouldn't be able to take out 8 skellies that happen to occupy the same space so they all get knocked back together and hit repeatedly until they all die. Which has happened for me.
Not to say all units should have the block skill but melee units are underpowered at this stage in production.
Oh and I think they should increased their chance to block as they level up more.

A bunch of archers can beat a knight in realistic combat.
Yeah but in realistic combat there's not usually a bearded old man running around with a golden machine gun firing magical blasts of energy and power at enemies and gulping down potions for power and using medkits to heal every kind of injury ever.

Well, you summon warriors from the reserves, so huts wouldn't work...though I believe that it has already been suggested, anyway.
At the top Steve said that the army might just folo u around now, so does that mean there wont be an army summon ny-more???
If you look at the date you'll see that I said that in 2005. Merlin 3 was actually made long after that.
