I found a cheat in MR2 Scoring... Not one that ups your score, but if there is a medikit/potion/spell in an area you can't reach, simply summon Berlin when the screen is cleared and blast it to him! (he has to land in the area, but after enough tries you will get it)

Steve replied,

That's cool!

I wouldn't say it's a cheat, more of a cool tactic!

I am having trouble logging in. When I first enter, I log in, but when I enter MR2 Scoring, it doesn't accept my pass and ID, and it says I was never logged in in the first place!!!

Steve replied,

Hmmm. Seems to work ok for me.

You could try switching on cookies for your browser, it sounds like the browser is losing the session some time between the login page and the MR2 scoring page.

You know on merlin 2 with scoring you go slow and die before you enter the black fortress!

Steve replied,

I'm not exactly sure what you mean but I think you may be referring to the tar that is outside the black fortress. This slows you down making it harder to avoid bullets, which of course, kill you.

why does the top part of the hi-scores for merlin's revenge 2 2.1say here are the scores for merlin's revenge 2 with scoring 2.O bla bla bla, most of the scores are pretty high including the top one bla bla bla. I wanna' know what happened to get the 2.0 scores as not the good and not messed up bugged.

Steve replied,

Are you asking me "What was the bug in version 2.0?"

If so, the answer is that you got points for your summons just by walking between screens which had summons on them.

mr2with scoring is waaaaay to hard.(for one thing, it is on hard and I don't have cheats.) I will never complain mr3(once your done) on easy is too hard. By the way good job, you made me learn a lesson!!!

Steve replied,

MR2 with scoring is really intended to give people who have played through MR2 a tougher challenge and to show off how great they are!

MR2 with scoring is great. The only problem is that i am slower than the enimies, and a potion didn't make any difference. Is this how it was designed or is it my computer?

Steve replied,

That's how it's designed. The green potions will speed you up, but you'll need to collect two before it really makes a difference.

In the mean time you have to morph into a goblin (use the purple spell, and fire it at yourself) to give you that much needed speed boost. But be careful that you don't get hit - goblins are weak and the medikits won't work while you are morphed. In order to morph back before the timer runs out, fire a 'blank' morph blast at yourself. In other words, one that is not charged enough to show the goblin.

hi. i was in the mood to play mr2 so i played it. in one level where the skeletons dwellings were i shot it and somehow it went off the screen to where i could not see it so i had to summon berlin to kill it. yea thats what i wanted to point out. im not so sure if the problems been fixed though..

Steve replied,

No, you're right that is a bug. It just seems to happen on that one particular screen, quite close to the beginning. I won't fix it though, it happens rarely, doesn't spoil the game, and would take too long.

Hi, I've played both Merlin's Revenge 1 and 2 and I can't wait to play 3. I just became a member to try and play 2 with scoring but when I tried to play it wouldn't fully download. I've always been able to play before, and I even tried both 1 and 2 on this site but they didn't work either. When I went onto bonus.com and tried from there, I was able to play it but not from your site. What should I do?

Steve replied,

You're the second person to tell about this. I'm not sure what's wrong but I suspect it might be to do with my server. Please try again and let me know if it still doesn't work.

the scoring addition of merlins revengs keeps freezing ramdomly and i have to refresh the screen and start over. it might be a problum with my computer, but i hope not cause i have a brand new alien ware. it also might be my internet connection which is crap so maby. have any advice?

Steve replied,

Well, first of all congratulations on getting your new computer!

Ok, I doubt it's your internet connection - a problem there would prevent you from downloading the game. If you can see the title screen, your internet connection has done it's job.

When the game freezes are there any error messages?
If it just stops, does the browser still keep working?
Do you have this issue with normal MR2 or any of my other games, or other shockwave games?

My guess from what you've told me is that it maybe something to do with you video card driver - the fact that it's a new computer actually means it's more likely to have driver issues. After a few months, when you've been able to update the drivers, you may find that the issues go away.

It could also be an issue with the shockwave plugin.

Did you have these issues with your old computer?

If you can answer my questions we may get some more clues as to what is going on.

There's a few problems in MR2 with scoring:

1. Caves of doom 1st room: Enemies too hard
2. Goblins got stuck on the very northwest screen.

Steve replied,

ok let's see...

1. Well, try using the monster summon. If you just keep summoning goblins in between yourself and the monsters you'll find that they probably won't come anywhere near you.
2. They get stuck on the cobwebs. This is deliberate - they are only small light and weak, therefore they easily become entangled in the webs. Whereas boulder monsters can charge through them with no effect.

Hope that helps

Well its not just about the 256 colors thing, cos my moms monitor messes up everything, videos, other games, weebl and bob cartoons... But other monitors on 256 colors dont do that. Now you could probably get your monitor to do that if you bought a really old monitor, shook it around quite a bit, and hooked it up to your computer.

Steve replied,

Oh right! I sort of know what you mean - I used to have an old monitor where everything would go purple once in a while - then you'd have to wiggle the cable at the back to make go normal and then tiptoe round the room for fear that it would go back. I have got an old spare monitor - maybe I'll give it a good shake and see what happens. :)

On 28th Jul 2005, Eric9000 wrote,

MR2 with scoring too hard. Can you fix the difficulty? I like it, but it's too hard. So change to difficulty to normal, please?

Steve replied,

If I do that all the people who have completed the gard game would have their scores overtaken by people playing on nmormal. That doesn't seem fair to me.

I could start another table but that creates more work when there's a bug and i have to reset everything. Really, right now, I don't want to make any more changes to MR2 or MR2 scoring except bug-fixes. I'd rather spend time on MR3. However, if many people feel the same way as you then i will look at it again.

Hope you understand :)

Steve,

The reason it would help in my network is for some reason or another not even i can crack that programming and i am a "hacker". Don't bother asking why a company/school needs hackers. we do it to protect ourselves and severs, god awful servers at that. but to answer your question its to basically defend ourself from other "harmful hackers"

Thanks Anyway
UniversalSoldier

P.S. I really didn't mean to intrude on your territory. again sorry!

Steve replied,

Well, if you want to encrypt some information I would suggest searching for it on google along with the language you're using (php, c++ or whatever). If you're running mysql on your servers it is possible to store information in an encrypted format in there too.

Good luck, I hope you find what you're looking for.

PS It's ok - it doesn't cost anything to ask!

hello again steve i tell ya your merlin scoring is great! But i found a bug when i try to summon berlin it doesont work and p.s i know how to summon him press 0

Steve replied,

Hmmm... make sure you've got numlock switched on on your number pad.

If it still doesn't work try changing to the qwerty layout. (You can do that on options screen.) I would recommend this layout anyway, to be honest. It's the one I use.

asdw - move merlin
f - summon berlin
q - cycle spell
e - toggle gmg

Hi,
I was wondering on the title screen of MR2 w/ scoring can you change the difficulty? Thanks

Steve replied,

No MR2 with scoring is locked in hard mode to keep things simple and so we can have just one high score table.
