I must say that I think this is really cool: http://www.monkeys.com/wpoison/

steve replied,

Looks interesting. I read through the pages carefully. I won't be able to put it on TMB though, since I don't have full access to the server.

I hope it succeeds in making spammers lives more difficult. At the same time it seems to me that we're moving away from email anyway.

Hey Steve, did you know that old services page is still up if you go to: http://themetalbox.com/index.php?page=services

You may wanna take that down, or some visitor may get the wrong idea...

steve replied,

Hehe. Well, if someone gets all the way in there, reads it and decides they want me to do some work for them, that's fine with me. :D

Sorry to say, but Bonus.com has gone out of business

steve replied,

Yeah, I've been getting legal documents about that for while now. I was very sorry to see them go, they were great supporters of The Metal Box and Merlin's Revenge in particular.

They did a lot to aid the success of the game in the early days.

Steve, you know when you login, it shows new comment, etc. Well, it seems to be wrong on how many new things.

PS Tower Battles is coming along fine, just need to learn how to make animation!Have all the sprites, just don't know how to put'em together.

steve replied,

Ok, what's it wrong on?

PS That's great! I'm looking forward to playing it.

Hehe, thanks, also, you guys waited for my arrival? dang...thanks, it really warms my heart up. :) I haven't been that great months ago, I met people that I liked online, and one of them...had friend priorites. It was sad.

steve replied,

Oh sorry to hear that, well hope you're feeling better now. :)

Hey Steve, occasionally, when I log in, the website says "updating level " in the top left of the screen. What is it and what's it mean?

steve replied,

It's part of a levelling up system I was working on on the offline version of the site. I eventually gave up on it, but part of it got accidentally uploaded during an unrelated update.

On 9th Feb 2009, Super_merlin wrote,

Hey Steve(Why do I always start off like that!), for some reason, I still got sent an email for that last message.Any ideas why?OHHHH! And for my story, it on the story page v3(sarcastically says DUHH).

steve replied,

Yeah I updated the message, then went away from the computer, then came back, then forgot what I had done, then pressed 'send reply', then remembered what I had done, then said 'doh'.

Ok, i've read the story now, I really like it. It feels very merlin's revengy but also like a proper fantasy story. Good work!

On 18th Jan 2009, Super_merlin wrote,

That's strange. You remember that comment I made about that suggestion that just so happened to called "Super Merlin" showing up in my suggestions. Well, I found out that it depends upon what link you use. If you use the one in the member panel, it shows up. If you use the one in the Suggestions DB, it doen't. Strange.

P.S. Could you NOT reply to this by e-mail

P.P.S. HAve you read my story, The Archer, yet. If so, how was it. If not, can ya read it?

THNX FOR LOOKING,
Super_merlin

steve replied,

It seems that the member panel link uses search_term=your-username whereas the suggestions db link uses orderby=mine, which seems to be the better way to do it.

I'll change the member panel link to use the better method.

P.S. ok

P.P.S Er no, sorry, did you send it to me? If so I don't think I got it. Please send it again I'll read it asap.

EDIT 5.07pm: The member panel link is now changed.

Thanks for sharing Wesnoth with us! I checked it out after you mentioned it and now I'm addicted to it.
So thanks again for posting about it.

If you find any more cool games tell me.

steve replied,

Yeah it rocks! I will do.

On 7th Jan 2009, wrote,

it happened when I was trying to log in; it did not log in, and in showed that message at the top of the screen.

steve replied,

Have you seen it since? If not, it may have just been the server going down for maintenence. I've seen that sort of thing myself once or twice.

If it goes away, it's probably a server thing, if it sticks around it's probably my problem.

Please cut and paste the exact url so I can reproduce it.

OH,
maybe Steve you should edit some of the texts on the website, like 'Thank you for your comment. We appreciate all messages sent, but due to the large numbers received, not all can be responded into' which comes after sending a message. I doubt you can't answer to all lol. Also, good that your hand has gotten better=)
I can just see it from the amount of posts/typing you do now compared to when it was worse.

steve replied,

Yeah, you're right really. Maybe I'll change it.

steve replied,

Hey dude, nice to have you back.

Yup, I'm doing a bit of updating and a bit of programming. Not nearly as much as I would like but at least things are moving a bit now.

Yup, lokey's been great and I've also made Roxblaster an admin too.

Hope you check back once in a while, the website makes it much easier to keep up with new stuff than it used to.

It actually took me a while to find this site. First I had been to bonus for a long time, and found mr1 & mr2. After beating mr2, I found a link to merlin web design. When looking on the other game sites they had links to other game sites, I recognized the metal box. and here I've been!

steve replied,

Well I'm glad you found us in the end!

On 8th Dec 2008, megaman4ever wrote,

What, Bonus actually was shut down?
I remember somehow navigating from some weirdo site called crazybonegamesisle or something to bonus, there finding a link here, figured this is MR homepage, and decided to become a long-time supporter!
Well, without bonus I would have not came here, and without this site I would have not started creating games, not atleast at the time, most likely not at all. This and many other things made me think, where are the donation links?
They haven't been around for a long time I know, or more like were here for a short time, but I'd like to have something like 'Donate' button on the left, and again have all those donation sums, not just the 5$ and 20$.
Also the comments were a part of it, so yeah make back even the 2500$ - Are you planning on buying this company? Or whatever it was. And include, if you dont all the different sums, in addition to 5$ and 20$ atleast still the 0,01$ to try it out. Or just tell me how to donate if I someday get to think about all the money I've made with my programming, and thanks to you started it.

Why I'm asking this? We'll, if I ever feel like doing some donating, I would have the possibility to do so. And also, dont forget I'm still making that surprise I mentioned earlier... About 10-15% done, with a sliding and pretty lazy working time.

Oh, and I'll be making minigames alot now, as I want not to lose my skillz and speed on gamemaker, eventho I do use alot more C++ and flex SDK now. Infact, I dont use them much either, but definitely more than Gmaker at the moment.

steve replied,

Well, with such an impassioned plea I think I'll bring them back. Even if no-one donates it's good for a laugh innit? Of course, it will probably take me half an eternity to get to it, but I'll put it on my to do list.

I'm impressed that you're using C++ ad Flex. I've kind of ground to a halt with Flex for now. I'm more interested in looking once again at pygame for future projects.

Hi lokey, i'd like to know your email adress please so i can email you my new editable MR fangame. thx.

lokey57 replied,

Uh... can you upload it onto say...

www.mediafire.com
www.megaupload.com

instead?

I'm not that comfortable with posting my email address in public.

On 6th Dec 2008, Super_merlin wrote,

errrr, Steve, you might wanna try the bonus.com link every now and then. At the moment, it takes you to some shopping page.

steve replied,

Yeah, bonus was shut down unfortunately. Where is the link? I'll remove it.

It's a shame, Bonus were great supporters of MR.
